This place has 2 non-working fireplaces, one in the basement, one upstairs, and they’re a bit of an eyesore. We try to decorate the topside one to make it look less forlorn. But this year (and a really good discount at Electric Fireplaces Direct) means we actually fix the problem, and because this is the season, Jane and I are combining our Christmas presents to each other, splurging just a bit, and getting something nice—an electric log set. I’ll let you know how this goes. Should be here within a week, so we can have a nice little ‘fire’ in the hearth for the holidays—and no smoke or ash, to which I am seriously allergic, and no gas, to which Jane is seriously allergic. We’re quite excited. We’ll have to put the living room on our cleanup list.
I have so seriously reformed: making the bed before getting to work, folding the laundry within hours, I mean, almost all the lights work now (one bulb to go) I have 3 living potted plants, and my room is a very model of proper piratical decor. I wonder if you can do that to Gilbert and Sullivan…
Our fireplace (a rather useless item in Las Vegas!) is filled each season with decorations. The Mrs has put a haunted village there. The fire screen seems to keep the grandkids away. I don’t mind either way.
I am the very model of a modern author, literal
I’ve information character, descriptive, plot, and structural
I know the rule of English, and I write the science fictional
From Foreigner to (no name yet), in order quite dramatical!
(You might want to add to that rule about never joking about a title with your publisher!)
😆
I know the traps and pitfalls of the plot-point too illogical,
I understand the perils of the intro pedagogical,
In short in matters intellectual, lexical, and textual,
I am the very model of a modern author, literal!
(CHORUS: In short in matters intellectual, lexical, and textual,
She is the very model of the modern author, literal!)
And another round of applause.
Just how many of us can remember huge swaths(sp) of G&S? I’ve seen some great productions set in different milieus with locally adapted patter.
Excellent, emilyrln! Next verse anyone?
Hey Walt, I love it. Now I’m going to have that dratted tune going round and round in my head.
It’s worse — it could be ‘Poor Little Buttercup’. You could always drive it out with another annoying tune…
You had to say that didn’t you?
Be careful, CJ, you’re going to become downright domesticated if you don’t watch out!
Scary. We won’t talk about dusting. Two fireplaces? I dearly love fireplaces and living in the mountains, we have one which we use when it gets particularly nasty outside just because. Warms up the living room/kitchen very nicely, but the bedroom at the north end of the house is still bloody cold. Hope you really get to enjoy your new ambience!
On a completely different note, a friend sent this bit of silliness to me and remembering everyone’s experiences with lost this and that, I thought I’d pass it on. It’s a hoot!

THANK YOU! Ryanrick, that’s one for the ages……ummmm…aged? It just about sums up work yesterday for all involved.
Glad to hear you have plants in your room, CJ……every good pirate needs a few. I write this while taking a breaks from cleaning black mold off my lime tree….sometimes OCD has its uses!
P.S. How about another verse, Walt?
Jane! Bodysnatchers ring a bell? LOL
We went out and got a gas fireplace about 3 years ago and hooked it up and used it for about 10 secs. It wasn’t burning properly and made the house smell. We just got rid of it about a month ago. More room for bookcases! =)
Oh, She is the Pirate Queen!
(She is, hurrah for the Pirate Queen!)
It is, it is a glorious thing to be a Pirate Queen, oh….
