We have never gotten burned trusting our readers.

We’ve gotten some info from Lynn: Ebay’s doing some revisions: Ebay and Paypal are connected. Unfortunately whoever wrote the Paypal explanation wrote it in Engrish or Franglish, something like “All your Fund are not transfer”… and THEN they want your bank info, if you get selected for this crazy business. Makes you feel really confident in that e-mail, eh? But it’s actually legit.
To be sure you’re really talking to Paypal, number 1. never, ever, ever hand that kind of info to anybody by clicking-through from ANY e-mail. ALWAYS go directly to the Paypal site your own way, by a ‘clean-click’, ie, straight from your browser, you having typed in the addy of Paypal, and then go into your account via your password, and deal with them in the confidence you are dealing with, yes, our old friend Paypal.
They want to know you’re you, basically. And this will calm down and get fixed, but in the meanwhile, while they’re being bizarre, we definitely want to make sure you get your books in a timely way. So if this does happen to you (they’re apparently doing this to random samples) — let us know here, and we will work with you to be sure you get your books. If you are not yet a member of Wave Without A Shore, please sign up now, and send us a brief response to this post, and we will establish contact, so I know you and you know me, and we can help you through any purchase glitch with the Paypal folk and be sure you get your download. Least of all do we want anybody to go away unhappy, having paid Paypal, and not having their book!

You should not have to give Paypal bank account information. I have a credit card linked to my account and have never given them any further information. They certainly would like you to, but I don’t think it’s necessary. An email from Paypal should also address you by name.
OK! After using up a bunch of the morning, I’m finally registered.
I used PayPal the other day to buy Heavy Time. (It will be awhile before I read it.) No problem, nor have I ever had a problem with PayPal.

A ‘clean’ load of Paypal from your own top bar and typed by your own hand should always be your starting point, even if you have an e-mail that purports to come from them—unless you solicited it by some process involving your account. Paypal is very often ‘phished’, and I do want to be sure nobody falls into one of those traps. But since Ebay started this ‘verification’ nonsense, you may see Paypal do some odd things. I hope none of our other members get hit up for ‘verification.’
A little off topic – shouldn’t Jane and Lynn be listed on Backlist Ebooks? Perhaps they don’t qualify.
They do. I’m not sure they’ve requested it. But they wouldn’t let Janet Morris list, and she should be able. If they get nitpicky about the rules, I’ll be resigning.
Well, nitpicky is self-defeating. I noticed the other day that http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk now lists Kindle books as well as Paperback and Hardback.
I have written to them. We’ll see what they answer.
UPDATE: all’s well. Janet Morris will qualify as soon as she brings out the Heroes in Hell backlist. Jane and Lynn qualify as soon as they turn in their paperwork. And both of them have been a little manic getting things handled, so they’ll get there.

by the way, consensus is that the PM missed out the subjunctive deliberately …. the common touch – how patronising is that!
That’s sort of like one of our current stories. Seems the Republicans in this instance want to look ‘common’, so they dressed actors and scripted their dialogue as their version of West Virginians. Now, West Virginia is known for coal mines, etc, but I imagine most coal miners would have used their Sunday-go-to-meetin’ suits if they were supposed to be on telly.
No few political ads are using actors, costumed as rich people to impress people that Washington is too rich, as good ol’ boys to convince people they’re locals…it’s pretty bad. I think along with other bits they’re obliged to reveal, “this person was paid to appear” should figure in the credits.
There is something bass-ackwards when people who normally use dialect are mocked for it, but high-powered political ads try to use it for ‘the common touch’.
It certainly got attention from the people in WV. The request that the actors look ‘hicky’, or like truck drivers and coal miners, was … not a good idea.
