There’s a tiny bit of onion in the Atkins recipes, and that causes water retention, especially for us. We’ve been struggling with attitude and ‘where’s the pony’ thoughts regarding slow progress, and also getting a shade weary of the same 3 meals since March, lunch and dinner. SO…I began doing a little improv on the theme, using their plastic containers, but our own ingredients, like broccoli, like Ancho Chicken, etc, and wonder of wonders, off comes the weight. Water weight. We’d been getting svelter all along, but it hadn’t been showing. Color us happy!
I’m now officially lighter than I’ve been since about 1983, after the big weight gain when I got back from England. Jane is losing at the same rate. I don’t know where she is on her personal time scale.
But shall we say, I am going to treat myself to a new pair of jeans.
Oh WOW!! doing major happy dance. And I’ve got into some clothes that haven’t seen the light of day for over 10 years!
“You go, girl!” as they say. I’m proud to say, me too, but I’m treating myself to an old, nearly worn-out pair of jeans. A pair of button fly 501’s that I brought with me when I moved here 21 years ago. I’ve been 42’s for most of that time. These are 40’s, I think, if not 38’s–the label is too worn. And the 501’s are cut much more snugly. It’s a very nice feeling! ๐
There is absolute triumph in old jeans.
Alas, all my oldest went to Goodwill, except one pair of cargo pants from 1975 that I preserved in a box—in case. I loved those pants. I don’t know if they’ve survived all the moves.
It occurs to me that since a couple weeks ago when you mentioned some old jeans, I was stickler enough to make the observation that you didn’t actually say you’d put them on, I should have clearly stated that I indeed have been wearing these 501’s for the past two days. I implied it, but wasn’t as specific as I might have been.
Good for you! I’ve been low-carbing for several months also and have lost about 15 pounds. Slower than you guys are losing your weight, but I hope to make this a permanent eating plan that I can maintain rather than dieting for a while then going off the diet when I reach my goal weight. That’s how I gained back 30 of the 40 pounds I lost a few years back; I didn’t let it get quite so bad this time, so I don’t have as far to go. Did go into the spare bedroom where I keep my clothes that don’t fit and moved the size 10s into my closet again and moved all the 14s & 12s to the spare bedroom. Yea!
I recently read “Fat Chance” by Dr. ? Lustig (don’t remember his first name) that explains why high carb diets pile on the pounds. Also learned in that book that fructose is metabolized into uric acid in the liver, which is not an issue for me, but my DH has gout, so it’s a big deal for him. We had noticed that his gout hadn’t bothered him as much and we wonder if that’s at least part of the reason.
Just started “Culinary Intelligence: The Art of Eating Healthy” by Peter Kaminsky who is a food writer. Weight gain is an occupational hazard for him, and I’m curious how he managed to lose weight (enough to reverse pre-diabetic blood sugar problems) and apparently keep it off.
Jeans – tried on the pairs that have been languishing in my closet for mumble years and they do up! And I don’t have to lie on the bed to get them zipped.
Yay!
Three weeks steady-ish loss of 2+ lbs a week. Haven’t gone down a size, but things fitting better.
In my case, at 69 now, the issue is that I’m not losing so much belly fat as in other places. ๐ I’m getting “crepe-paper skin”. ๐ My cheeks are sinking. ๐ And although it hasn’t been checked as an issue, certainly my testosterone/HGH levels are way down and I’m also losing muscle mass. ๐ ๐ Still, I am fitting in these jeans I got too big for probably 20-some years ago.;)
