It’s pretty out there. Gorgeous. The snow was very wet, and the air absolutely still for most of the snowfall, so the snow is an inch thick on every single twig of the tallest trees, against an absolutely brilliant blue sky.
I love it.

No mammoths or polar bears though I hope?
None in sight. Our wildlife is usually limited to squirrels and marmots which are soundly sleeping, egrets which are south, and coyotes, well—no sight of them this year!
I’m jealous! Here in Tucson they said we might get an inch (first time in five years) but now they are saying it won’t happen. Sigh.
How lovely! Today in Melbourne we are expecting 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit)
That is one of the prettiest sights!
It’s raining here in Cleveland, but I’m not at all jealous – we’ll get that lovely snow too, before the winter progresses much further.
*ENVY!*
Up in the 40’s for the next few days. We had a little less than a foot of snow last sunday-monday. It didn’t have much effect on us, as we were prepared. I guess we’ll have to go out today to get a few things, mainly food for animals, because, as we all know, the world does not turn if kittehs and goggie are hungry.
Meanwhile I am in the sunroom, petunias, impatiens, and jasmine are blooming…..a nice contrast with the snow outside. Kittehs are lined up at the slider watching the bird and squirrel show on the deck. This afternoon we’ll take a walk down to the beaver pond. New Year’s Eve will be quiet. I usually fall asleep by ten. 😉
JOY AND HAPPINESS IN THE NEW YEAR! 🙂 😀 😆
It jsut warmed up over teh last two days here and melted off the last of the snow we had covering the ground. It’s supposed to hit mid 50s here today then dive back into the teens tomorrow nite. Indiana weather…
Not to mention — Indiana earthquakes— Quite the solid little earthquake for the staid and solid middle of the country.
BTW, any of you who are I Can Haz Cheeseburger fans, and I suspect some of you might be, yrs. truly is a regular on that site, under the name Passepartout. Lols are one of my guilty pleasures.
We got about 18 inches in the Boston area (SmartCat down in Rhode Island got less, too bad), so the ground is lovely and white out but the air temp. today in the 40’s. I’m writing/revising a scene in my novel for a few hours and then heading in to the city with some friends to view the ice sculptures, parade and early fireworks of First Night (a celebration which started in Boston). I’ll come home around 8:30, I think, and welcome in the New Year by continuing to write on my novel. Currently, my heroine is busy throttling a ghost. I’ve decided that my New Year’s resolution is to finish the full draft of the novel this coming year (preferably by the end of the summer, actually). I don’t normally do resolutions but this seems both solid, specific and achievable.
Happy New Year to all!
But first, before I can get to the novel, my grey bunny, Catwynne, is at my feet demanding pats on the nose. I think her New Year’s resolution is “humans shall give me more pats.” Alas, for the humans, there are apparently never enough pats to be given out in the world.
aww. Are there pix?
Actually, Catwynne and her brother Petros Lagwos (CJ: you should be able to transliterate and translate that name!) are both up on Daily Bunny, a great bunny photo blog. If you scroll down to Nov. 2nd, 2010, you will find them snuggled together in a fold of our living room rug: http://www.dailybunny.com/daily_bunny_d8/extreme-cute-therapy/
And here, after a bit of googling (who knew that my bunny would be the 4th and 5th hit for Catwynne on the Internet!), is a shot of said bunny sitting at this very computer I am typing on and admiring herself from last year on Daily Bunny.

I think you gave us your weather, CJ. (I’m in Alberta.) I woke up this morning to the mountain ash outside my window bearing little hats of snow on all its berry clusters, and long lines of snow along all its branches. I almost want to paint it.
The snow hats might explain the scratchy throat I had last night. The kind of weather that lets snow hats develop also traps pollution near ground level. Le sigh. At least I’m only halfway down into the river valley….
looked a bit like that when I landed in Glasgow the day before Christmas eve – brilliant white world, hoar frost and snow. when we took off from Bistol at 7 am the pilot said the temperature in Glasgow was minus 14 C! but then driving on to Kintyre, it was only minus 2 or 3 C. there were some slippery bits, but the road all open, no problems, and all as pretty as a Christmas card. the castle was amazing – you can see it here – http://bookings.landmarktrust.org.uk/BuildingDetails/Overview/97/Saddell_Castle – but looking way more grim and romantic surrounded by winter trees and the sea, on the edge of a little south-facing bay and shingle beach, opposite Arran, with views of Ailsa Craig. I took trillions of photos, and it’s a shame y’all can’t see them – I have uploaded most to my fb profile, but am going to do some blogging. castle a tower house built in 1508, then burnt down by Sussex because the owners were interfering with his campaign in ireland. renovated in 1770, then neo-gothicked by the laird when he had to live in it for 3 years in the 1890’s while the mansion house was revamped. nice oubliette just inside the front door, and a dungeon, the scene of many a water torture episode, as the sea comes into the lower basement. what a place! fantastic Christmas holiday, the only downside was 3 cases of swine flu and 2 nasty colds (I got one of those) and at times we did sound a bit like a TB ward …. (not me). the weather warmed up, with 2 days of a gale from the south, and it was 8 C when we left on thursday.
is my comment too long? it still won’t put it in … 🙁
or is it the link for the castle’s website?
