He has the same backlist problems as everybody is having, and has e-books. I’ll be putting his link on the sidebar, but meanwhile I’ve invited him to introduce himself and say something about how he’s going about the same kind of operation—different, but the same as far as getting readers books they might not otherwise have access to.

My spouse and I both mangle our lefts and rights. When driving we long ago developed the front seat, instruction technique of “turn your side” or “turn my side” because we both got so tired of saying “no, turn the other left!” “Your side/my side” doesn’t require any mental translation into “just which direction is ‘right’ again?” When I do have to give directions in right and left, I almost always mentally have to give the hand I write with a shake, then I know that that side is right, and then tell the person.
I had a dear friend back in my younger days: she was another Latin teacher, 20 years older, once retired, and working again. We worked together, traveled Europe together, and she was very sharp, but driving! She had a habit of getting lost—really lost. She paid my way to Europe in those days of cheap airfare so I would drive her about…it was that bad. I had occasionally to come and get her out of messes in the States, once at 2am in a place so iffy I actually packed a gun in the car, just in case. She hadn’t planned to be there at 2am—she’d just run out of gas after wandering for quite a while, and had found a phone in a gas station…in these days before cell phones.
Well, I finally learned. She was looking to buy a place out in the boondocks, and she had been there with the real estate agent, and was going to tell me how to drive her there. She gave me the route, through woods on dirt roads, over dry creekbeds, deeper into woods, around the edge of a lake—that sort of place, where you start to hear banjo music in the background. And after some years, I had her pegged—I turned right when she said left, left when she said right—she never even noticed, mind you!
And we actually got there.
Fortunately she bought a different place, on roads with right angles instead of serpentines, or I’d have had to come after her at least once a week.
I can tell time pretty well by the sun, and city streets work out if I know which way is north; right and left are no problem. Just don’t drop me in the wilderness out of sight of the road. Even if it’s just over the hill, I’ll never find it!
Stephen Goldin’s going to start a blog of his own: he’s working on it, and I’ll keep you posted. We’re notorious for thread-drift, but be advised, he’s still with us, and he’ll have his own shiny new blog RSN.

What would be the one book (available as an ebook) of yours you’d recommend to someone who hasn’t read anything by you?
I’ll sort of cheat on 2 fronts. 1) Because it’s not just a book of mine, but one by my wife Mary Mason, and me: JADE DARCY AND THE AFFAIR OF HONOR. You can find it over at Fictionwise, where you’ll see it gets highly favorable ratings.
2) Because, if you’re like many people, you’ll immediately want to buy the second–JADE DARCY AND THE ZEN PIRATES. So I’m really recommending 2 books, but you don;’t *have* to buy the second if you don;t want to.
And after that, you may join the chorus begging for a third book. We’re working on it, honest, but it’s going to be a while….
It’s oft been said that it’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind. Since I’m a firm believer in equality of the sexes, that makes it a man’s prerogative, too.
So…I’m changing the name of my new blog to The Ingesterie, after the restaurant/bar where Jade Darcy works as a bouncer (although I hope I won’t need her special skills to maintain order there). The URL will remain the same, though: http://stephengoldin.blogspot.com. See you there, I hope.
CJ tells me that she had trouble adding a comment on my blog until she created a Google profile for herself. I’ve never had a problem with this because I already *have* a Google profile. I know there are people who don’t trust Google (especially since they’ve tried to tear up the copyright law); I don’;t know what to tell you. Maybe you could create a fake profile by lying to them? Or will the Google-police come to your house and rip out your internet connection? I hope you’ll find a way to come visit the Ingesterie after all.
