Sorry to hear about that, glad it’s fixed. I’ve been a fan of your writing for years and I’m delighted to meet you, “virtual” though that may be. I know of no other published writer who makes him/herself available to readers and the reading/writing community as you do – thanks!
And if you need help with WordPress, let me know. I teach it to front-end users, along with other such things!
Welcome! And we are now up and running! We not only got our internet fixed, the repairman fixed a glitch with our telly and made it receive 1080i instead of 420i or whatever it was stuck on…Comcast has its good moments!
We’ve had so much trouble with Verizon (TPC) DSL that we switched to a local company just so THEY could fight with Vz instead of us. The other day I came home to see if anything was working and LO! We had Sync! So I jumped on the router to see if the authentication was set up to find that Verizon had flashed my router and I had all the custom VZ logos and menus. Boo Hiss! And, because the router now thought it was a VZ box, it wouldn’t let me on the internet until I “activated” my account, which is of course impossible. Widomaker will bring me a new router on Monday. whee.
Fortunately the formerly Widomaker DSL/Router uses the same rating power supply as my old Netgear, which I thought was toast. Franken-modem works great and I remind you all not to trust The Phone Company. President’s Analyst, anyone?
😆 we had one round with Qwest offering DSL…a) they sent the wrong equipment b) the people we could get on the phone didn’t know what a router or a server was c)they wanted to set up, oh, in a couple of weeks—but still hadn’t sent the right equipment, and none of their phone contacts could be made to understand what they had sent, let alone what they should have sent. So we contacted AT&T and they had somebody out with the right equipment the next day. It still took another month of wrangling to break all relations with Qwest and get them their equipment back, and more than that to make them stop billing us…
We were with AT&T for a while, but when Comcast offered a better price bundled with cable and phone, that’s where we went…
I have heard that Qwest was really, really clueless, yeah.
If we had a TV and cable I’d so sign up with Cox because the linksys across the street is on Cox and it’s Really Fast. But, I don’t want to buy a TV or lose the time I use for other things when it sucks me into the VORTEX…
Oh, it didn’t actually blow up. Heh. I’d wondered for a moment.
We had a car battery almost blow up. It scared the poor fellows at Les Schwab. They opened the hood, and just backed away from the truck.
As it turned out, our alternator was over-charging it. So it had begun to cook and expand. Something I had not thought was possible. So … I wondered for just a moment about your router…
In every community, there is always one very competent ISP, and one that seems to rely on trained monkeys. Poorly trained monkeys. It’s good you were able to get your modem replaced with a minimum of fuss.
We’ve had spotty Internet connectivity for the last week — someone who is presently unknown snagged or cut somehow the main cable between the islands. Oceanic has been implementing a variety of workarounds, but they are all temporary patches at best, and relaying cable is time consuming and expensive O_o
back to Word press – I had a very upsetting thing happen last week – some hacker hacked into my blog – on word-press – and left a nasty there. so and several of my friends got warnings from our security software – anybody looking at it will have been spooked and may not return. then a friend bought his Dad a laptop – first thing they do, go and look at my blog – and eek – they hadn’t installed any security software – end result – they had to re format … horrid. it was only there for a few hours, but it did quite a lot of damage in one way and another. I presume WordPress themselves dealt with it ..
Sheesh! So sorry to hear that. It’s a good reason to ask for memberships on the blogsite, so you can do a mass mailing and advise people if you ever have to again. I’ll warn Lynn, who handles our server security.
Thanks for the heads-up, but we should be okay. We use WordPress software, but we use our own copy of it, installed on our own servers, with a somewhat customized directory and naming structure. It’s not that we can’t be hacked, it’s just that we’re real isolated, especially when compared to the thousands of nearly identical blogs hosted at wordpress.com.

Noting down the WP resource! Thank you….
Sounds like an AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!! moment! 🙁 Hope nothing of value was missed or lost. [[[hugs]]]
Wasn’t our router. It was our modem. Got a new one from Comcast and all is swell.
“Swell!?” Well, all I’ve got to say is “Shazam!” 😉
Hmmm, just what I needed! A reminder to backup all my custom router/modem settings on the current main computer!
Of course, I probably can’t get the same model anymore, but it is a plain text file — so I can figure out what I was trying to do, at least.

We’ve got AT&T’s UVerse which is phone, DSL, and TV all in one. Very pleased with it so far.
