…and our theory is that we have to delete OSG’s membership, and attribute all her comments to her alter ego, which she has; and then she will rejoin as OSG, with that icon, and then I will wipe her alter ego, attritbuting all alterego’s comments to OSG.
So…OSG, whenever you’re ready, we will attempt electronic shape-shifting. The faceless lady steps into the box, lights flash, she disappears, then reappears gloriously green.

Rats, rats, rats. We are back at square one, except the Sharon account has all your attributed comments. The green girl avatar shows on the member list. But not in the posts. I’m thinking the trouble is in the gravatar account…YOUR gravatar account, which I cannot access.
All right, me hearties: ‘t is time we put some push on this. HOW does one fix a gravatar account? I don’t have one myself, because admin is a different sort of beastie from a member, and I install my avatar via this site itself. Can anyone tell OSG how to edit her gravatar account and reload the green avatar?

I know zip about Gravatar, but computers are my friends.
My suggestion would be delete Gravatar account. Start another as OSG2, or whatever, the icon is tied to the email address, so it should work in spite of whatever name you are registered as on the blog. If you don’t see it right away clear your browser cashe.
The rest of you are about as helpful as a care package full of menus.
But are they really yummy menus?

I subscribe to the stray neutrino theory, and am becoming resigned to the possibility that The Green One is doomed to a white oblivion.
Gravatar seems at issue. I have tried directly loading only the Avatar and I am getting a time-out. Perhaps they need a few minutes to synchroniize.
With a large distributed system like this, that would be reasonable.
I was able to get it to show up by viewing the source selection and pasting that into my location bar…

I have a one-eyed thing with horns ATM, from my previous karate avatar. Looks like SOMETHING is happening -i’ve got like 6 images to choose from!
I am hampered by having no idea what a regular account looks like from the dashboard: where I am, I’m Admin, and I don’t see things as others do. OSG, do you have a Media option on your dashboard? Is the OSG icon displayed in there anywhere? Could it have been wiped out on this site?

This is beyond bizarre. Go to your dashboard and tell me whether you have a media section, and whether your desired avatar is in that section. Mine is, but Admins are different beasties.
Likewise: go out to Gravatar and tell them what’s going on and ask for suggestions. I can’t get onto gravatar because I have no gravatar account (being Admin)—so I am doing this long-distance.
When I switched my avatar picture, it took it a while to propagate out to me. Other members could see my new pic hours before I could, which just seems wrong. So I do not know if that is influencing this any.

I switched my Avatar too, to the OSG. It didn’t show up so I tried switching it to my Vacuum Spheres one, and that did show up.
I wonder if the OSG avatar has somehow corrupted itself enough that the gravatar service breaks and gives you the little drawing.
On the other hand, it may suddenly appear. In which case I will be green and far sexier than in real life and will immediately have to change back before I get called out for false advertising.
Are you aware that OSG is showing up in all her green glory at the 11:59 a.m. reply? Starts “I am trying to re-register and it won’t let me do anything as OSG…..” All her other entries are in white-out mode.
I now see the 11:59 post arrayed in all my resplendent green glory. The remaining avatars are remain…white. I’ll hunt around for the media section and check back in with you, Carolyn.

One wonders if their database is seriously de-synced! And whether I’ll be brown and monocular or lustrously, verdantly verdigris!
It does seem a bit excessive for something as frivolous as an icon. Sorry my suggestion didn’t work.
This is an ongoing mystery, Xenophon, and your suggested fix is roughly what was applied. One of our 2 allied sites has never gotten the gravatars to behave; we have, and then began to lose them. Because I like all the functions to function, it seemed worth chasing down this time. I’ve found the php that controls same, but had rather not start messing with the code. I thought it might be because I’m, oh, 4 upgrades behind in the WordPress ‘theme’ I use, and I thought maybe that could be the cause. But our rather roundabout fix did seem to work, and if it is a propagation, then time will cure the others. The gravatars are rather nice, since the same people can bounce from site to site and be visually recognized, and we at least know more about them than we did.
Think time may straighten it out. I imagine Gravatar’s database is on a server somewhere waiting to update user info.
I Tried. You can usually recognize me. When you see people running away from something,or standing around in a big circle. I’m the guy going the wrong way.
It’s June 5th 12:28 am, and OSG’s June 4th 11:59 am reply still has her purty green avatar, while her other posts are white-on-white. (I think that’s actually Vina as an Orion, from “The Cage.”)
Alternative humorous suggestion: If her avatar change does not propagate, she could always consider becoming StshoSlaveGtst, a member of the dreaded stsho assassin’s Mata Hari guild. (What, you didn’t think they were *entirely* pacifist and incapable of offense/defense, did you?) Haha. Hmm, that’d give another spin entirely to the white-on-white poem in one of the books.
However, one hopes OSG may be restored to her lovely vraie verdante self soon.
I need to find out whether posting an avatar of my own creation at gravatar makes it public for others’ use, or if I can make it private for only my use. If private, I’ll try switching my avatar to my customary forum avatar. 🙂
