…so I can format the files that go into the downloads.
For example are you using PC or Mac, give the OS (just in case: I don’t think I need to know, but..)—if you are using your computer as a reader?
Are you using Kindle, Sony, or some other kind of reader?
Are you using Palm, Droid, or some other kind of device?
Give your future (what you asked for Christmas) as well as present choices. I’m happy to create the other kinds of files, but it’s futzy, and I want to have a list so this’bear of small brain’ can remember what she needs to do.
What you’ll get will be a bundled zip file of whatever number of formats we turn out to need. Right now I have 3.
Give a look at Jane’s site, while you’re at it.
We use a PC with Windows XP. Our Ebook reader is made by Elonex and is manufactured to primarily read EPUB documents.
I use a PC with Windows XP and both the MobiReader and Calibre set up.
Will one need to have an account with PayPal or does it work without? (Not sending anything per mail is not an option.)
I use a pc running Ubuntu Linux, and usually firefox 3.5 for my browser.
I read the books on my Nokia 810 using FBReader.
So any of the common formats will work for me, as long as they aren’t DRM’d.
We’re totally non-DRM. Welcome in!
I use a MacBook OS I’ve downloaded Calibre.
That should be MacBook OS X
I have a HP laptop with Windows XP. I use the Mobi that I
down loaded from you. I love it! To pay with PayPal you do
need an account. They specify that you should print out your receipts for a hard copy.I have been using them for
about a year with no problems.
The count thus far: epub-4; mobi-3: we are definitely no-DRM.
I’m waiting to see myself how the Paypal thing works, but they advertise you can use credit cards with them.
I’ll do anything I can figure how to do, so don’t be shy—e-pub has a lot of devices I can tailor a file specifically for, and I’ll do that if I have a request for it.
I have linked my Paypal account to my primary ‘by online’ card. Works great, and it was easy.
You can fund your PayPal account from GreenDot MoneyPak (look on http://www.moneypak.com/paypal ). No credit card necessary. Free.
I’m on Windows Vista Home Premium and use a Kindle 1(azw, mobi, prc).
Whoopsy, bad URL. http://www.moneypak.com will do it.
Thanks, TulRose. And thanks for testing that URL.
And that’s one each for e-pub and mobi…
ePub-5, mobi-4.
PC Windows XP SP2
Pefer reading on my eBookwise, but since I have eBookwise Librarian most html files convert pretty well. The html created as an interim step by Mobipocket Creator work well.
eBookwise site says you can read RB? Is that one ok, as well as HTML? I think I can get a neater file with RB off Calibre: the html files are kind of scattered and resistent to unification. Rats—no, I can read RB, but can’t write to it. RTF? That I can do. No,—re, re-edit: apparently I can write RB. Calibre just upgraded its software.
Running Calibre on Mac OSX at home, Android device that handles epub and pdf for On-The-Go reading.
Primary reader is a Kindle 1.0, though I’ve access to both a Windows Vista machine and a couple macs.
I use a PC with Windows 7; plus a laptopwith Windows XP. Calibre on both. No other reader.
We have:
epub 5; mobi 4; RTF 1(?);
We’re now even at 5 and 5, with 1 RTF. Choices I have: I can produce an ePub file that is generic, which many readers can read; or I can target the ePub files to various devices and maybe get a nicer file for them. Mobi is mobi and Kindle can read it. We also have PDF, for those readers that can handle that.
My preference would be to read these works on the Kindle, for what it is worth, but I can also read it on either a Mac laptop or a Windows laptop. I got Barbara Hambly’s pdf’d short works sent to my Kindle last week and it worked a treat. Paypal works very well for me, as well.
Add me to the PC/Calibre/e-pub group…an ebook reader is on the list for someday.
With regard to Paypal, you do not need a Paypal account to buy something with a regular credit card (very recent experience speaking here) though the final “order” page does seem to imply that you should sign up. (Not me, nope!) I suspect that Paypal deducts the fee from the amount paid to the seller, though, since there was no addition to the purchase amount that was charged to my card.
MacBook OS 10.4, Calibre, Cybook reader which prefers Mobi but can swallow text or HTMl.
It’s getting C-L-O-S-E!!!!! HURRAY!
Well, we will definitely be offering mobi, e-Pub, PDF, and RTF, unless the person who needs it turns out absolutely to need HTML. Don’t get the idea I’m only going to do three: I’ll do as many as it takes to satisfy everybody: I just don’t want to spend time doing conversions nobody needs. I’m collecting types, here, and thus far nobody’s even asked for PDF.
Not to confuse you, but remember these files can be manipulated and translated, so if you have a means to convert, say, PDF or RTF to a type your reader or device can read, you’re perfectly free to do that for your own use. Just never pass on a CC file to any organization or site, and not to any person not under your roof. 😉 We need the income! 😉
PDF would work – PC with XP.
Mac OS 10.5.8, using pdf in all likelihood.
Kindle. And whatever the next new secret apple slate thing copes with. If I’m allowed to buy one. If it does exist. 😉
😆
