Yesterday we lost one of our friends from the rink…expected, but not that fast. We went to the hospital, but it was too late to say goodbye; and skating today—none of us were in top form. Today—Jane’s blogsite got hacked, and some people see ads and we don’t. If you can report on what you see and give her some help, this would be welcome.
Not a good couple of days, friends…

Sorry about your friend from the rink.
I’m another not seeing ads on Jane’s blog. FWIW, Windows XP, Firefox 3.5.5, no add-ons like Ad Blocker.
our thoughts are with you.
Thanks—we’re bewildered: we can see something odd in the source code, but can’t prove it’s going on in the site.
I’m so sorry, my thoughts are with you, Jane and OSG.
You might have a virus or worm. There are a lot of recent warnings out about adobe vulnerabilities, for instance. Are you running ad-aware or Malwarebytes or spybot search and destroy or anything in addition to antivirus? If not, I’d get that on there right away. Malwarebytes is pretty nice. Ccleaner is also good for getting a handle on what’s running on your machine. Use caution id you decide to delete anything!
Good luck,
Chak
Can you prevent this as a display? I’m wondering
if you wish to be notified if one of us passes? I
have debated this with myself and would wish to
let you choose.
I would certainly wish to know: I care about you guys…
CC of message I’ve posted on Jane’s site:
I can see the weird links and the suspect Javascript in your code, but I think it’s not likely that you have been hacked.
It’s a lot more likely that you have installed a WordPress plugin or widget that already had this code in it.
(Anyway the good news is that the suspect code is not working and not doing any harm.)
One way to find out which plugin it is would be to search within all the files belonging to your plugins for some of the suspect text.
But the easiest solution is going to be to disable each of your plugins one by one, reloading your site in your browser and checking the source code, until the suspect code disappears. Then you will know which plugin it is and you can remove it, and enable the other plugins again.
I was kinda wondering how javascript would show up maliciously since searches of “javascript + ad + worm didn’t show up any hits. A plugin would explain it, I have no resolved never to accept any.
But seriously, there are a bunch of Adobe reader vulnerabilities, including one that my employer (US Gov’t) has its knickers in twist over. We’ve had to download half a dozen Adobe patches over the last few months, you’d think those guys would get it right at some point…
My deep condolences to all of you on Sandy’s passing. OSG had posted it on her Facebook page and I picked up on it and posted it at the Shejidan site. It has been a rough year for OSG, for you, and everyone whose life was touched by Sandy.
My regrets and thoughts are with all of you on the loss of your friend. Loss is never simple even when it is ‘expected’.
Love to you all…………….S-
I’m thinking of you all – my deepest sympathies.
On the good side, it looks like Jane’s got the problem with her site solved, so Yay! on that.
CJ and Jane – so sorry for your loss.
Re’ Captain and Lime: Running Firefox with NoScript.
Just logged in and got a whole bunch of text (no graphics) which appeared to be pushing software. After “allowing” javascript under NoScript and a page reload it appears to have vanished. So it is likely something is still hanging around.
Sorry for the loss of your friend. 🙁
Jane’s blog tests clean from work computer, which had previously not visited it. The code is remarkably different though 😉
Sorry about your friend. A loss like that is always hard.
My condolences too to all who knew your friend and are grieving. Not being able to say goodbye is rough (saying goodbye to my father was the toughest thing I ever did, but not being able to say goodbye would be far worse).
