It was a nice read, Jane. thanks
Lol: Jane doesn’t always read this blog.
As I said it sounds *very different* from the first one. By all accounts a splendid time! *Almost* makes me think of canoeing again….which I have not done for close to fifty years! (WOW! Am I really that old?!)
I am not replying to anything that is current because I am not current though I am new here. In fact I am not au courant with anything much that is going on here. Fallback statement in profile: I cannot abide in silence. So I speak here, say hello, say I once had a canoe trip from hell, funniest darn thing you ever could imagine, but I’m sure you don’t want to imagine having dysentry five miles into a bog because the river has somehow disappeared and you haven’t a clue where you are and there is literally nowhere to *go*, you know, *go*?
Regarding how do you keep your favourite authors writing? I think you can’t. I think only they can keep themselves writing. And on the hell days where you think you really ought to hang up your computer and just read other peoples’ writing for the rest of your life, you gotta pray you get that email from someone, just someone wonderful, whom you once a long time ago gave delight with your books, and they suddenly just think of you and write you and tell you what a difference you made, and they don’t know you’re on your knees, reading it…
Or maybe you’re still kind of on your knees, and then you get up and try to finish something useless for your blog on goodreads, and you notice something strange, you notice that CJ is writing stuff from her blog on your friends’ comments page on goodreads, which you still don’t understand (I mean, they’re writing, should you be answering? like what is all this aboooouuuttt???)and you don’t get it at first, because you’re so bewildered by the whole “be out there thing…” and then you do, and you say, “Waaaaaiiiiittt a minute.” And you go, “But why are there these things from CJ on my blog?” And you go, “Is it a mistake?” And then you put it with the email and you cry a bit and you get up and go on CJ’s blog to say thanks, CJ, Thanks so much for helping me keep writing.”
