carried aloft by unusual winds. Downwind ash warnings across Washington state.
Apparently gale-force winds have lofted a plume of old ash from St. Helens, from the crater region. Neighboring towns are being warned, but not, as originally thought, a new eruption. The seismographs are quiet.
I remember being entranced by the post-eruption pictures when I was a child. They were a glimpse at the terrible mysteries of nature.
The summer after the big eruption had a definite high haze; lasted until the following spring.
hope it doesn’t do anything too dramatic, I’m going to be out there is a couple of weeks
It was just wind, this time, and it’s been seismically quiet for some months. On the other hand, it is a great side trip out to the Nature Center.
