…for the new tank.
I tell you, this getting older is a bitch.
3 Advil, 2 pain patches, and the S-I belt…I need to shake this by tomorrow, but this is about as painful a thing as I’ve had in a while. It’s just sciatica, which is a leg pain transferred from the lower back, so that’s where most of the treatment needs to go, but ow! Really ow, here! [to quote Bela the Bat.]
“I am hurt! I am most definitely hurt!!!” Snotlout, How to Train Your Dragon Of course, this was after one of the tiny dragons bit him on the nose, so YMMV 😀
You’ve got it. The sciatica is so bad around that hip that just touching the skin feels like a burn.
An advantage to doing most FW tanks, especially here in the greater Seattle area: pull a hose inside, turn on the water and watch. I know that doesn’t help but just saying…..
WIth salt, we use ro/di water, which is just the H’s and O’s.
OK, ok. You keep using that word – ro/di — what the heck is it? Or do I have to wait and buy the book? Which I might do anyway, just to find out what all you’re up to… not that I will ever attempt keeping fish. At least a cat will tell me when it’s hungry.
Fish will generally forage in the tank, so if they miss a meal they don’t knock the vases off the shelves. 😉 [We loves our kittehs, but we know them!]
Ro/di is Reverse Osmosis and Deionization Filter. It’s a 4 stage filter that takes out everything but the water itself, all minerals, etc, so when we add an ocean salt mix, it actually reconstitutes ocean water, at least in mineral balance. It rejects 4x more water than it lets through and takes hours to run 30 gallons, so we just use the waste water in the washing machine.
Ahhh. Thanks. Rather fancier than the filters in the city’s water filtration plants. Those I understand. I’ve been fascinated by water filtration plants since I was a kid, and then for ten years I worked for the city on the computers at our four plants. Great fun. But scary to watch all that water flowing through a weir.
What’s just driving me nuts—the hip hurts. The back doesn’t. The hip is so darned irritated it hurts to touch the skin, let alone to take a step. I’m using the cane I haven’t touched since I took up skating—that’s how bad it is. Ow. Ow. Damn. Ow.
Yeah….I know all about ro/di water. Fish scientist here. I almost went there with licorice gouramis, but deionized water (with much less expensive ‘gear’) was enough and the tank was only 10g. ‘Making’ the water for that tank was sure a PITA. And I could condition the fish to tap water through time. Can’t really do that with marine fish. You picked your ‘poison’ (grin)…..I’m much much too lazy to do all that. We just have different ‘dreams’ when it comes to fish-keeping and I wish you well with YOUR dream. It’s just that I hear about all the trials and tribulations you are going through and looking at my tanks and saying WHEW!
I tell you, this getting older is a bitch.
Amen, sister!
OTOH, there probably isn’t enough money anywhere to make me go through late childhood, teens and twenties again… embarrassment, humiliation, grief… I’d rather have the aggravations I have now, thank you ever so!
The back/hip/sciatic injury worries me. Has Tim found some big, strong helpers for tomorrow? And/or some small, strong helpers? Please don’t risk further injury. Plus, someone has to lead and create plans F-Z on the fly during the move. I assume plans B-E are already in the bag. Please take care.
Well, I’m gimping terribly. I wouldn’t be safe lifting anything, for ITS sake, so I’m hoping Tim and Jane can do it, and maybe Tim’s wife Cheryl. Mike and Patty (Patricia) Briggs have offered to drive 3 hours up here from TriCities to help if we get into a real pickle, but I’m hoping we won’t have to ask it. They are available for an emergency, however.
Best wishes CJ!
Hang in there and get well soon.
