There’d just been too many interruptions on the Bren book—had to go back yet one more time and sort.
Now I’m much happier. Making good progress. Things are making the sense I wanted them to.
Got together with Lynn last night, long phone call. Which threw me late getting to bed, late getting up this morning, late with just about everything.
Yesterday’s eating out fairly well put the kibosh on the pound-shedding I’d hoped to do, but I didn’t gain: that’s good. Jane actually dropped a pound, having had water instead of a couple of glasses of vodka. Bad me.
The weather is being iffy—we’re apt to get snowed on again for a bit, but then we’re going to have a couple of days of everybody’s favorite!—wait for it!—freezing rain! Aren’t we happy?
Jane and I did look at bathroom tile last night—had a brilliant notion of doing maybe a koi theme, and looked up koi tile panels on the internet. OMG. Can you say beautiful. Now I wish we could really do some redecorating. But…replacing the hog-sized breathing plastic-covered hole in the bathroom wall is kind of a necessity. (The tile leaked, due to a handicapped bar that had not been properly installed: pulled away, cracked the grout, and there we were, mush for a wallboard and tile buckling. So—hog-sized hole. Great decorative feature.
But it does mean we can shout straight down to the basement, if we wish, or tell if we left a light on down there!
Good to hear that progress is being made and I look forward to it coming out (in 2012 I guess).
Ah, It seems I went one step in a wrong direction : I thought your and Jane’s blogs were linked in some way so I have 2 “Pseudos” here : Shadow007 (on your blog) and TheSFReader on Jane’s !
Sorry about that.
Just wanted to tell you about an item that I find of interest :

It seems the french Mnemos Editions will publish one of you books, and by a literal translation it seems to be “Foreigner”. I really like the cover BTW.
However, I remember of “J’ai Lu” already having it published under the “Le Paidhi” name … Is that possible ?
I got you as SFReader on mine: and our blogs are closely linked, but you need a membership for each because that’s the way WordPress handles it: I wish you could just join once.
And I hope that signup isn’t driving people crazy, but I just 10—count ’em—10 attempted signups by bots this morning, that the system kiboshed! That’s a record! [We like to have registration because it prevents those bot spammers from getting in here, making a mess on the carpet and annoying our members!
Actually, according to that link ( http://www.actusf.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=135947 ) it seems they got the rights to translate it again, and they plan to sell the first 3 volumes (at least)
Yes: I’ve got the contracts to mail back today: — they’re really in a hurry, so I’ll bet they want those back asap—-I got the ones from Korea sent off, but France—I think J’ai Lu may have died: haven’t heard from them in ages. But Mnemos is the one. Real pretty artwork!
May one inquire who he Korean publisher is and whether title and ISBN is already known?
I’ll try to find out. I may have a copy of the contract. They only tell me the English title: I won’t know the Korean one until I get a copy of the book.
Google eBooks has been launched…

Thank you, greenwyvern: THAT may have possibilities. We need to do some extensive fine print reading.
I see that about 10 of your books are already on sale at Google eBooks, presumably via the publishers. Prices are $6.99 – $8.99

Yep—I checked: the books offered are legit.
Google could have possibilities. I hope their system will treat authors well.
Really unexpected phrase: “hog-sized breathing plastic-covered hole” That’s worth at least one laugh. Possibly more. 😉
Last week, I spent a bit o’ coin on blinds for just three rooms plus one room for my grandmother. Hers had somehow been damaged along the track and otherwise. Mine…two cats currently and two previously, intent on looking out windows and heedless of those annoying contraptions blocking their access to perfectly good sitting-and-looking-and-sunning spots…. I got vertical blinds, in hopes those will be sturdier than the old metal strip horizontal blinds. (I can’t fault my cats, they’re perfectly logical, albeit insistent on disobeying. If I were a cat, I’d want to check the windows too.) It sure is going to be an “experience” putting them up. (The blinds, not the cats…though occasionally, one might be tempted….)
Hmmm…Goober has decided my arm is good for sleeping / leaning on, the better to get attention away from that strange box and clackety thing I keep saying he mustn’t walk on.
I did a very small bit of wishing / looking for bathroom tile, in the event I might actually get the master bathroom tub repaired next year. (Expensive. — Interesting that “pensive” is part of “expensive,” though unrelated roots.) — I determined that I’ll need to look elsewhere for teal or turquoise tile. The current fashion seems to be all grays and all beige / browns. Not bad if you want those, and I will want cream and a sandy color, but I’d like teal or turquoise along with that. It looks like I’ll have some hunting to do. I really have been surprised by the overall seeming trend towards drab or dark colors lately, as though there’s a puritanical streak roaming around. That “master” bathroom is actually quite small, so anything too dark or too busy won’t make it. (My imagined cream, sand, and teal may be too busy, so I’ll need to think it over carefully. Some simplification with shading or patterned colors in the tile may solve that nicely. At any rate, the decision is a ways off. (“A ways off?” Hadn’t thought of it as a fixed expression, but I s’pose it is.)
Fie on the bots. Fie! Out, damn’d bot! See? They just need Lady Macbeth to yell at them. (Actually, sic the kif on ’em. Tell ’em they’re Dinner. 😀 )
Looking for interesting bathroom tiles?

Oops, almost forgot — Hurray for progress on writing. I’m home with a bad cold. Bad timing, bad cold, just all around cause for whining like a little kid from a grown man. I passed on a DVD that didn’t do anything for me (ennui, c’est ici) and so I’m going to curl up with Foreigner 1 and a sketchbook. Those will appeal to me before I get sleepy again. (Sleep? What’s that?)
Is this where we say something trite? Like every cloud has a silver lining or something? I’ve always been a little suspicious of that saying, personally.
