I have 14 copies of Protector, and 25 of Intruder. I am not telling the world yet, except that part of it that routinely visits Closed Circle. You are the ones that get the announcement first, and I will not tell others for a few days—but there are more than 14 of you on this site, alas.
Please move quickly: you’ve said you wanted these, so you get first crack at them. These are the copies I’ve reserved for you and nobody else gets a chance until you’ve had yours. Go to Closed Circle, go to the catalog, and you should be able to click on them and buy them on the spot. You can use credit card without being a Paypal member: just persist through all the nonsense.
Go for it.
If you have any confusion, let me know.
Thank you for posting this – I’ve happily place my order, which once I get in my grubby little mitts, will reside on my bookshelves. I’m almost to the point where I should just name that shelf “Bren’s Shelf” as I own all of the HBs and they’re taking over.
Meanwhile I can read the ebook while in transit to and from work. I am quite pleased. 🙂
What magic when I can preorder the ebook on Amazon and it automatically arrives like a special gift from someone who has stolen my credentials and hacked my account and makes me panic and then I remember, oh yes, that was me wasn’t it? Can you digitally sign my book? No? Ah well, I will have to live with my one signed CJ volume.
🙂
I have a signed copy of “Reseune”, as well as the 3 graphic novels in the Morgaine series, and of course, Jane’s first 3 “Rings” books are also signed. I believe it would only be fair for me to step aside and allow someone who has no signed copies to get a chance to get one.
Once the furor has died down a bit, I will mail my copy out and ask if you can sign it for me. Postage prepaid, of course.
Joe
Today! Today! Won’t be just any day! Today “Protector” comes in the mail. (Sung to the tune of “Tonight” from “West Side Story”)
CJ, I’ve finished reading Protector. How would I go about sending you the book for signing? I already have your mailing address, but what method would you prefer to use to send the book back to me? That way, I’ll know how much to include for shipping, packaging, time/fuel/etc., spent in taking said package to the carrier.
Thank you.
Just go USPO, and include a return label and an envelope with stamps. I’d recommend you use the USPO padded one-price mailer: cheaper.
Very cool –
btw, received my digital copy from amazon at 4 AM yesterday and had it read (in and around work, on the bus, and at lunch, and home) by 9 – and I have only two words for you now:
Keep writing.
(Please!)
Also – and this may be my own failure of memory – but wasn’t it Geigi’s nephew that was ‘almost engaged’ to that Marid girl? And was packed off east? Somewhere along in there Tatiseigi’s nephew was mentioned as the object of all that, and I can’t recall Tatiseigi having one (a nephew).
I live to serve.
Yes, it was Baigi, Geigi’s nephew. What you’re thinking of is a reference to Tatiseigi ALSO having a troublesome nephew. I’m not certain who that would be, but thought it might be a reference to his nephew-in-law, Damiri’s father. However, there have been several references to troubles within Atageini clan, so it may be some other nephew; clan relatives are difficult for me to keep track of.
What I was confused by was the tale of Lord Ajuri coming to the door when adults were out. I don’t recall that and don’t quite see how/when it would have happened, but I can accept this revision of events in Intruder, and more happily should the next book relate how/why Damiri left the apartment, as she could have.
Whoops, make that Baiji.
Apologies. In chapter 15, kindle location 4404 there is an error that says Tatiseigi where it should say Geigi – I think I had just mentally edited it and forgot it, as I do with other sorts of typo.
Thanks, I just bought Protector and am waiting eagerly for it!
It is very helpful that you posted that the new book is out. I find the Foreigner titles hard to remember, and I missed a new one once because I thought I already had it. Took me a year to figure that out. So please yell loudly when we need to go buy something.
Speaking of which, this site, in the top left corner, says the “New Foreigner Book” is “Intruder”, and the Closed Circle catalog page says the sale on Protector ends 3/14/12. Often you list the publication dates in the Closed Circle catalog, but they are not listed for Protector or Intruder. The publication dates help me make sure I haven’t missed something, or keep me from buying something twice.
Green envy. Burning jealousy.
Hurry up library!!!!
I have too much going on this week, I am forcing myself to wait on “opening” my e-book until Saturday. Thank you for the heads up on signed books, I got my order in this morning. I hope my directions for the signature are clear enough, I’ve been spending too much time on the Cake Wrecks site, where the directions end up written in icing on the cake along with the name.
Read it yesterday. Exciting! When can we pre-order the next one? 🙂
Just bought and finished Protector. It was a page turner (or would be if i’d bought the physical book instead of the kindle edition). The wait for the next one is going to be almost unbearable
I received my pre-ordered Kindle copy and started reading. But I missed Daniel Thomas May, so I went and spent my Audible credit on Protector, released the same day. As the early Foreigner books are not available on Kindle yet, and as I have discovered that I really like audio books, despite my expectations, after trying some of the free ones, I got them in audio. The further into the series, the better Mr. May does, and the Cajieri sections never fail to make me grin – the tones are just perfect. Foreigner is available at a reduced price if you have the Kindle edition first, and I can wholeheartedly recommend the Whispersync Kindle/Audible format as a marvelous way to enjoy Shejidan. I am hoping they get Protector properly Whispersynced soon, though with my Fire I can listen and read along at the same time regardless. Daniel Thomas May does a terrific job with Bren and Ilisidi and the rest, though noticeably better as the series progresses; I suspect he’s become as big a fan as the rest of us.
I put in my order. Yay! Thank you for doing this. I hope I got it right. The signature part confused me, mostly because I’m working with a blinding headache. This will make me feel much better. LOL
This is priceless. 🙂

Kinda reminds me of a German Shepherd pup I once had that was one beer short of a six-pack. She chewed the hose into about 10 pieces in the fenced backyard, and didn’t figure I’d get on her case.
Kind of looks like that rascally pet of Cajeiri’s.
OMG! 😉
Thank you for the heads-up! I just ordered a signed copy of Protector that I’ll be giving to my mom. After reading it myself, of course. 🙂 As the one who introduced me to sci fi in the first place I think she deserves a few nice signed hard covers that she didn’t have to dig out of the stacks at the local used book store.
Just ordered my signed copy from Closed Circle. Missed the announcement yesterday because I was reading Protector on my Nook and didn’t check out the site last night. I love that it was there at 8 yesterday morning. Finished it last night then started on a re-read at a slower pace to savor the goodness this time through.
This series just keeps getting better!
OT: Phlogiston, a continuing search!

Oh, there is already a new one … must order it now.
If one tries to order it on Closed Circle with shipping to “all other” places, I’ll get following error:
“Error! Variation addition amounts are not numeric. Please contact the admin and mention this error”
Since shipping to “all other” places is (understandable) rather high, I think I stay with a normal copy from a dealer with a branch on my continent. Probably there is no signed copy left, anyway.
Ok, ordered. Delivery is announced for Monday (so I’ll get a non-signed copy, but I’ll get it faster). Looking forward to Monday 🙂
We can do an international order, but the postage costs about as much as the book!
If you ever happen to be in Munich (Germany) and there is the possibility for readers to meet you I’ll pay you your beverage & dinner for you if you agree to sign all my copies of your books 🙂 (Charles Stross was in Munich last year and he agreed to sign everything I brought. Which was a lot. But you’ve written more … )
Done, but not satisfied! Wail! Why did I read so fast? Why did I buy so soon? Another year to be spent on tenterhooks, just waiting. Oh, my! What a greedy girl I am!
Of course, I had fun! But boyohboyohboy, do I want to pound certain parental units living stationside!
