The nature of the problem was not such that you could pick up any ‘contagion’ from it. It was an attempt to phish search engines in favor of another site, as I understand it. Jane has the explanation on her site, plus input from Abbey, who has traced the origin of the links…
Thank all of you for your help and moral support..your info and suggestions were valuable, and even the ones that didn’t apply this time have gone into our memory banks. The denizens of the internet’s sewers occasionally slip up through the grates. But they don’t win this one. 😉
Yea!!
Speaking of sewers,I had a nasty, malicious attack over the last 2 weeks. When I moved in my friend entered the passwords for their secured wireless for me. Within 15 min. I couldn’t send emails. A notice popped up saying that I had been identified as a spammer and that I was black listed and all out going mail was blocked. The name of the company was Five Ten. I was suspicious of the jerk that I got my dialup from(I was still on that server for my email). It didn’t take much to discover
that he also a seller of the wireless company.
When my friend confronted him he had to admit
that he had my email address identified as a
spammer. The company Five Ten took his word and
didn’t even check me out. It’s fixed now but I
have talked with other individuals in the same
fix,not spammers but blacklisted and blocked.
Oh,his reason for the attack…..he was mad that I was getting wireless from someone else.
Be careful, there really are boogymen out there….
Some spamblock services can be very squirrely; I just checked on FiveTen, and no one likes the way they determine a web address to be attached to a spammer, and they don’t have an good way to remove your address. My webmail is blocked at work because several years back it was a games hosting site, and nothing I say will convince our filtering service that it is now different.
BTW, did your friend receive her meteorites? 🙂
I did check, but seeing that I had no difficulties, felt a report to have been unnecessary. Perhaps I should have? Anyway, glad that the site is fixed.
Azureblu, if he’s a contractor for Five Ten, or for some other wireless company, I’d go straight to that company and let them know what he’s done, especially if you’re not the only one.
Sorry to say, it’s not yet fixed but I’m onto the problem and looking for the hole through which the hackers snuck. I’ll keep y’all posted. It’s not something dangerous to visit, just bad for my blog’s search-engine rep.
Grrrrr
WHich hurts all of us. We are all in this together. We need some more help, guys, if any of you are up on PHP stuff. We have an ongoing problem.
Hate hackers!! Why would anyone bother Jane’s
site is beyond me!!
Chondrite,I know that she is thrilled about your
help, communication’s sketchy right now as there
was a wedding and Xmas happening one after the other!
He owns the OnlineMt that was my internet connection,he is the guy that I bought my laptop
from and so is the Administrator of my laptop and also has a remote connection. We did turn him in at the wireless company and my friend is doing a report to someone on line.
I contacted a site that helps small companies that have been targeted by these blacklist people, Toolbox.com,they even followed up with
a phone call. They might be worth contacting
Chondrite!
Ye gods, there are certainly some sleaze-balls out there!
