Speaking of eagles….look at the many postings on Google for the story about the pair of eagles dive bombing US Post Office customers in Anchorage, Alaska. They’re nesting nearby and dive bomb people to protect their babies. A slight irony in that the symbol of the USPS is ……..the American Bald Eagle!
This is a bird that has adapted well to protected status. They are not shy here in Spokane. When I had a third floor balcony overlooking Latah Creek, I had one that used to fly—hover, nearly—only a dozen feet off my railing.
Fifteen years or so ago I was working on commercial fishing boats based out of Dutch Harbor. You couldn’t let animals or small children out of the house without someone watching for eagles, so they’re used to it. Cats or small dogs were convenient fast-food for eagles!!!
