She’s got the slideshow on her blog: link on our left sidebar, to The Captain and Lime.

Just saw Jane’s video…the bridge is gorgeous! And you’re looking fabulous, yourself!
It was about time we had a day by pondside. It’s been cold and rainy all spring, string algae has had a field day, and now we’re on the way to making the pond what we always envisioned. It was amazing when the bridge went into place and we got the reflection in the water—Jane’s still not up to what she was, but she’s so much better than a week ago, it’s good to see.
brilliant! and what fun, now you have a short cut! I mean you will have a short cut when it’s finished, a very pretty short cut.
now I just found this, which I thought might interest everybody, maybe you have already seen it … http://www.spacedaily.com/reports/Did_A_Massive_Solar_Proton_Event_Fry_The_Earth_999.html
Beautiful.
I’m sure fresh air and sunshine didn’t go amiss either. . . And the satisfaction of a job well done is always good for what ails you.
We’re having a small glitch in the bridge—as in, the paint job I rushed in the dark of the garage by the non-light we have in there when she was sick and I was afraid she was going to either go out and try to finish it—or fret about it—well, it did what rushed paint does, and ran, especially on the sides, so I just spent an hour sanding off the runs, and she’s, yes,—she’s Jane, and I love her for it! painting it right.
I guess you had to pull it back in to do that. Well, it’s fortunate you brilliant people know how to get it back in place easily enough. That is the kind of thing that every time you saw it for the rest of your lives you’d probably kick yourself for.
No, no, the planking isn’t attached to the bridge yet. We’re going to chop these boards up into 30″ lengths to deck the bridge, starting with one end, screwing down the planks, then sitting on them to do the planks further out, until we’ve decked completely across the bridge. And yes, Jane was right. When I saw it in daylight it was pretty clear. Problem with painting by artificial light. It turns out the no-primer paint we used should NOT be applied with a roller. She used a brush for the third coat, and the difference is (pardon me) night and day.
To our great relief, OSGuy has a chop saw and we are going to get these boards chopped into perfect 30″ lengths in a very little time, after work hours today.
Jane also worked too hard yesterday, and is going to take it easier today. She gets a head of steam going and just wants to go ahead, and ‘tired’ doesn’t ring alarm bells with her. I’m not going to let her do anything athletic today.
That is SOME BRIDGE! I like your method of laying the planking…sort of like laying tack in front of a train. 😉 And I love the red, looks very Japanese tea garden.
Will Jane *really* take it easy today or are you going to have to lock her in her room?
Our pond is progressing. Proge finished the final round of rock yesterday. Now we are debating how far to cut the liner. We don’t want to cut it too much because we are already thinking about adding a smaller, raised lagoon. We have a new frog sort of a light reddish color….I need to do some research on this guy.
Meanwhile I have fixed the leak in the pool skimmer by replacing it. Believe me this is much easier to do with two people than one. I manages to save a lot of the water I had to drain off but still need more. Having a well means I do a *very* slow refill….15 gal per hour…should be ready to go tomorrow.
It’s been a cold spring. Last year the water temp was 74 and I was swimming by the middle of May.. Right now it’s 68. We used to swim in the ocean in May and thought nothing of it. I think kids are may of armor….I sure can’t do that now.
And then suddenly *Wed night/Thursday) it got hot here in New England and they are predicting in the 90’s tomorrow. SmartCat — be smart and don’t do lots of hauling and shoveling in the sun tomorrow!
YES! HOT! No sun so far…thunderstorms all night…more may come. Hope no one in CT, MA, RI lost power. Not the time to be without, especially in towns and cities. We do all our heavy work before 10:00 AM or after 5:00 PM…spend the hottest hours in studio or by various water features. Breezy, the dog, is the most difficult as she wants to lie on the cement slab, because it’s cool, when as a thirteen year old she should be on her various sleeping pads.
Trust us: preserve all the extra liner you can. Especially where you want a lagoon: just put dirt over it and use ground covers, like the Steppables from Lowes.
If you had quite a bit left over on one side or another and you wanted to limit the area that you have to landscape, has an impermeable layer, and/or has an underlying liner that needs protection, I would think that you could roll that edge up and bury it in a trench while still attached. That would limit your current footprint while keeping the option to expand open.
We cut two of the corners to make the liner a bit more oval. We’re going to make ‘planters’ along the rim by digging digging out areas and filling them with shallow rooted ground covers such a creeping thyme and vinka. I’ll stick the leftover triangle areas together to make small pool where i can experiment with fountain designs. The yellow flags survived the winter and are blooming nicely. 😀
The hpdm can be buried to a depth of about 2″ in good dirt, affording plenty of root space for creeping thyme, irish moss, etc. Grows right over it.
