oooooooooooohhh, dear.
Well, it was interesting—too many non-singers, who naturally want to talk, and sometimes difficulty finding a volume that didn’t drive the talkers to talk louder. I don’t have a loud voice, and it’s pitched at normal conversation level, ie, alto; so I just couldn’t carry over it the way the sopranos can. One is tempted to let the 12-string just blast a silence into the room and then sing softly, but that’s unpleasant, so I tried to restrain that impulse. Good food, though, but most of the main edibles were onioned, so neither Jane nor I could eat it, just look longingly: we made do with crackers, cheese and hummus. Still we had what I think was a good time. We ate, we drank, we sang, and our fingers survived. That’s not too bad an evening.
Didn’t get to spend as much time at Westercon/ConChord as I had been planning because Trink was just recovering from the amputation, but I did get to see Seanan McGuire play and sing. There’s an interesting talent, very enjoyable to watch. You do have to enjoy her two main modes: obscure mythological references or “dead things”. She has a very good song about whether the Black Death was bubonic or hemorrhagic fever, for example. Picked up many CDs while I was there, as well.
Humming for Hummus, as rendered by a flock of enraged hummingbirds….
Some 231 lbs. of CDs? Yikes. You sure they weren’t hiding a singer under all that? One suggests placing pizza nearby and seeing if it disappears. No, that could be complicated by roommates. Bother.
Sounds like it was a fun evening. Black olives with your hummus, perhaps.
Me? I’m waiting for iTunes to download the latest Doctor Who episode. 😀 Looking forward to the release of Browncoats: Redemption on Sept. 4th.
I may have time to write some more this weekend — but the plot bunnies are bad about springing new ideas and not finishing existing ones. Gotta find a way to fix that. Carrotes frais pour lapins muses? Carrot flavored tea? (Eek, ye gods, no.)
Hope you will see fit to give us a revue. 😉
Yes you do! Enjoy your evening of silliness!

Have a great time!

And here I am with 231 lbs of Millennium Pandemonium filk CDs in my living room since they were not shipped to the customer like we asked…
