WE’re pretty fried last night—we stayed up til midnight to fold up the special offer on schedule, and since the little ‘freebie’ advert lacked a bottom tag, I first blew all the right sidebar off the CC home page, then lost all the text on Jane’s beautiful Netwalkers theme page…sigh—thank goodness for backups. I did it right on the e-books catalog page.
But we think we have shut down all the portals we opened. If you notice anything left unsecured, let us know. 😉
It’s amazing trying to place notices where people, attracted by the ‘shiny thing’ will actually see the information. Placement of advisory labels is not a science—it’s an art and a learning curve.
And we have walked no few people today through the process of downloading and opening files.
Meanwhile we had a good birthday for Jane, a really good dinner out, and we are preparing to fall on our faces.
Thank you all very, very much—welcome, our new members—and all you who may lurk are welcome to join us! We’re easy-going and flame-free, and discuss just about anything.
Very very good, CJ. I’m glad you were able to work out the problems in time to have a dinner party out for Jane. (Even if it were only two people there, it’s still a party!)
As soon as I get paid, I will be downloading the Omnibus, I’m looking forward to reading Yvgenie, as well as the other two books in Jane’s Netwalkers book. Oh golly, so much to read, I may not come out of the house for weeks!
If you already have Partners, you can save some by just paying for Mimetron, the other half: the Omnibus is just Partners plus Mimetron.
Jane mentioned to me in one of her replies on HOTN, that Betsy Wollheim feels the Morgaine saga is too far out of date to resume with another book in the series. While I realize that Foreigner is the hot seller for DAW, you are also your own publishing company at Closed Circle, yes? If you had the time, the energy, and the desire, could you write another Morgaine book, be it novel, novella, or short story, and publish it on CC for download at a modest price? I’d snap it up in a minute. Thank you for the years of enjoyment you’ve given me with your books, your blogs, and especially your company at ShejiCon3.
Sigh…I’ve really opened a can of worms with the Omnibus. Hopefully it’s clear on the site now. The Omnibus IS Partners and Of Mentors and Mimetrons. This whole ebook thing where people are unwilling to spend real money on a book that’s taken me ten years to get in front of them is just killing me. I’m planning on putting the book up in two parts on Amazon, but keep the Omnibus for the folks who come to CC. OTOH, I wanted to do the giveaway, so I put both parts up on CC as well. It also gives new readers a way to get into the ‘NetWalkers universe without a huge investment.
Thank you for your gift, Jane! I haven’t read anything of yours yet, so this will be a good intro. 🙂 I’ll be ordering more if I enjoy it, I assure you. I’m so very picky when it comes to what I read, it always is a pleasure to find another author who meets the criteria. And I’m glad you had a good birthday dinner!
Those of us who know you understand that this is not a work of charity. You make your living doing these things, and you know the true fans don’t mind paying for things that are of value to them. When my paycheck comes on the 1st of November, I’ll be downloading the books, but I can’t until then. Sorry, I’m completely overdrawn on all of my financial accounts except one, and that’s not accessible online (thankfully!)
Please don’t let it get you down, Jane. More people will be getting the ebooks as their budgets (or cookie jars) allow. Many ppl aren’t used to dealing with ebooks from other sources besides those big, giant ebook, music, and what-not online stores. The more adventuresome sorts will figure it out. :hugs:
I’lll be reading some later tonight. Fried my brain and confuzzled my laptop today with what I was doing and what it was doing.
But things are OK, they’ll work out.
I do know the feeling. My budget has to improve. But I’m (mostly) staying within budget. Just long-term stuff is affected adversely.
Three novels, a short, and assorted other textual goings-on, plus multiple format prep…it’s a wonder you’re not both babbling. 🙂
Keep up the great work. It’s much appreciated by us fans.
will have to explore that. I downloaded the mobi of the short story Deliberations (what a pretty cover, Jane!) onto my new kindle which arrived today and caused me a few problems i think due to not enough battery to find my rerouter … gobbled that up .. so now I need to go back and pick up the netwalker books .. 😀
thank you for all the entertainment, you two!
I got the benny of being able to see Jane’s glorious cover in the PDF file, and wangled the text onto my Kindle (after some alarums and excursions). I will be going to visit relatives next month in a location where my Kindle will be invaluable, since there is very little entertainment unless I provide it myself. Between long walks beachcombing and the various downloaded CC books, I should be in fine shape 🙂
I wanted to get hold of the Foreigner story (for my iPad) but I can’t find a link to it anywhere. 🙁
First go to http://new.wavewithoutashore.cwgservices.org/?p=4221 and choose: Adding DRM-Free books to your iPad or iPhone. Figure that out.
Then go to http://www.closed-circle.net and go to the e-book tab. Deliberations is available for 5.00.
Thank you, CJ-nadi. I chose the ePub format, and easily installed it on my iPhone and iPad—I can read it in iBooks. I’ve a long journey coming up (Chiang Mai to Bangkok to Copenhagen to Dublin to Westport) and am looking forward to reading this! (I was listening to The Kif Strike Back on the way here…)
Bon voyage! Travel safe!
Hope this is appropriate (Please take it down if not!) but wanted to spread the word that Neil Gaiman and Audible.com are doing a giveaway of Neil reading a new, as yet unpublished scary story. For every download, a charitable contribution of $1 will be made to a charitable organization organization that promotes education: US – Donors Choose (or UK Booktrust). The offer is only good until Halloween. Here’s the US link: http://www.audible.com/mt/ScareUs?source_code=AUDOR94FAWS102212&bp_ua
