We promise, we don’t send you spam or sell your name to lists. We’re nice people. And any of our members who know some other fine folk they can send here to join, do. We appreciate you each and every one. If you want your own avatar, be sure to sign up with gravatar first, and then your avatar will happily follow you to all WordPress sites. Otherwise the registration robot will make up a creature for your avatar.
Ok then. Registered. I can’t promise I’ll login often as I read posts via rss via email… Much more efficient 😉
Welcome, however. It just makes me happy to know you’re out there. I daily have to boot the same tiresome bots, these fictional people who want to lend you money or other such—they’re so dreary, these bots. Finding actual new PEOPLE in the mailbox is so much nicer!
CJ’s, Jane’s, and Lynn’s blogs are neat places. I visit shamelessly often.
This weekend, I get to do forum housekeeping, so I sympathize.
Meanwhile, I’ve begun self-studying Japanese. I’m very new at it, but liking it. I bought a couple of books on grammar, had bought CD’s long ago, and I have been trying, with good results, an iPhone/iPad app called iStart Japanese. I’d recommend it. It’s a good app for beginners or for experienced language students. You get audio and text, and it’s very clear. An app with good reviews, but which I haven’t tried yet is Human Japanese.
But what I wanted to mention here is for manga and anime fans who have an iPhone or iPad (and probably for Android phones and tablets). — Viz Media, distributors for English versions of many popular anime and manga, have an app, Viz Manga for iPad, which is free and gives access to their licensed aanime/manga, such as Bleach, InuYasha, Naruto, Dragon Ball, and lots more. I don’t know yet if there is a subscription fee per series or per episode/book. I will report back.
Related, there is a Manga University app, the publishers of a high quality series of How To Draw Manga books. The app is free. I had bought one of the printed books, and they are good for aspiring artists or collectors.
Dark Horse Comics has a very fine app, which let’s you buy digital comics/manga, priced reasonably according to size of the issue, from a regular comic book to a full graphic novel. They have free stuff regularly. You can archive comics when you are done, or keep current issues until you’ve read them, so you can manage ebook space on your tablet or phone. — I can vouch for these, a wonderful app. The only drawback is not holding the comic in your hands.
I’m another lurker who mostly reads through RSS. I really enjoy the blog, so a big thank you for keeping up with it. Now that I’m registered I may even comment now and then. Probably on computer things.
I tried to sign up with gravatar, and they insisted I already had an account with them, though when I tried to retrieve the password, they also insisted that my email address wasn’t in their system. Not a battle worth fighting, so no Earthrise icon for me. That’s ok, though, the randomly generated monsters are pretty cool.
…or gravatar fixed their database conflict since the last time I tried to register! Excellent. 🙂
I’ve been reading since SpoCon. Thank you for critiquing my short story!
Thank you for the reminder. 🙂
Off-topic, but: bestest of birthdays, CJ!

A very happy birthday, CJ! Here’s to throwing the diet out the window for one day and having all the lattes and huckleberry slump you want!
Happy Birthday !!!!!!
Raise high the roof beam, carpenters…..CJ’s birthday is at hand. Happiest of days.
Welcome, new voices!
And thank you all! We’re going to have a nice one—likely there will be pictures!
A mug of gfi sounds grand here too.
I’d suggest one avoid lighting the birthday candles aboard Serenity, however. Seems to make the day a mite peevish.
Goober and Smokey send their regards with tails at full mast.
Also, my grandmother would send her regards too. Her birthday’s tomorrow. == Cracker Barrel for dinner tomorrow night, then back home for carrot cake. Gotta fix same tonight; can’t forget to bring extra carrots for garnish. Chef Duncan of the Hines is a tad stingy with the carrots. No wascally wabbits to worry about what’s up, Doc. No pookhas either, but I might not have noticed lately.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY from me too!
happy birthday from me too!! pictures will be very much enjoyed.
