We’re a pretty friendly lot.
First go to the Gravatar site and get a gravatar so you can get a unique avatar—have a favorite pic ready. The gravatar will follow you to all Word Press sites.
Then come back here and sign up. We love new people. And once you sign up, add a comment to this thread: it won’t appear until I approve it, which is the way of new comments, but this way if you see a thread you’re aching to comment on in a timely way, you will not have to wait for approval. Once I tick the little blank and approve your first comment, seeing that you’re not offering us inheritances from Hong Kong, you’re in, and can give and take without my approval.
Think of this as one free-for-all ongoing convention. We get panel topics going, and we just sit in the hall and chat. There are two allied sites, The Captain and Lime [Jane Fancher], and Face of Chaos [Lynn Abbey], plus Closed Circle and Seeking North and the Closed Circle Bazaar. So we’re a very varied lot, and we hope you’ll sign in with all of us. Lynn doesn’t have memberships, but Jane and I do. Membership here is a lot warmer and fuzzier than just visiting a website. Join us!
Since you put your case so persuasively… Hello!
I suppose this is my chance to come out of the woodwork!
Many moons ago (about 15 years?) I was in high school and had just discovered both the Chanur saga, and the first of the Foreigner books. Pyanfar quickly became my hero(ine). I wrote to you, probably declaring as much, and you were kind enough to write back and encourage my interest in writing.
Unfortunately, I haven’t yet gotten around to any serious writing, but so much has happened since then that I have ample material. I have ended up living and working in Japan, for starters (the Western part, away from the places damaged by the earthquake and tsunami, although the entire country is affected in some way or another), and being a foreign person employed to educate many hundreds of Japanese kids often yields hilarious, frustrating, or, sometimes, touching moments.
English books being scarcer here, I kind of had a yearning to get back into my old favorites, and re-reading first the Chanur series (I still idolize those Chanurs!), and now the Bren-ji books has been so wonderful that I found myself poking around on your blog to see what you were up to these days. Your interest in Bleach is pretty impressive, although 4 out of 5 elementary school students here prefer One Piece!
But anyway. A pleasure to follow what you all are up to. Please excuse me as I join in!
I signed up a while back, but can’t remember if I ever actually commented before. So… hello! And I want to mention that I’ve been having increasingly strong urges to re-read all the Chanur stories. I hope I can get through a few more books in my to-be-read pile before I give in… the stack is nearly as tall as I am! 🙂
If you don’t want to upload your own image you can take a chance and get a computer generated one. I like my little guy so much I have never bothered with any other. 8)
This is one of the best sites I have found…… 😉 No meanies here!
Yes, people are nice here. Intelligent, full of strong opinions and ever more interesting stories, and considerate. CH sets a good example for us all.
Welcome!
We do try to keep this a friendly place. We laugh a lot, we complain occasionally, and we so enjoy the company of kindred spirits.
@Akapinku — Did you notice their selection of Calibre books — All you need is a computer to access them. I’m waiting for the revamped Rusalka books, which I will download to my Kindle. Just added two of Jane’s books to the ever growing pile of “To Be Read.” — So many books, so little time!
I was wondering how people were able to comment here. Hello!
Welcome!
@WOL: I did, and I do have a Kindle, but we are new friends and are still getting acquainted. Thanks for pointing those out!
Hi. First post. So pleased you’re a cat person (I should have guessed, with the Chanur series, which I love). I wanted to say, I love the Foreigner series, which I found from the beginning, and every book is just as wonderful as the first, which is damn high praise. Great characters, great relationships. I love humans NOT being top of the heap. I love Bren, who is real, with realistic family issues (I, especially, relate to the female parent)and insecurities. I love Ilsidi, powerful old woman, merciless and playful.
I just bought and read the latest book and started again from the beginning and am reading them all. Thank God you write long books. Getting me through some stressful reality.
Thank you.
Welcome in. I hope you enjoy our only slightly rowdy company.
Been coming around cherryh.com for the past 15 years or so, figured maybe it was time to register and actually say ‘Hi’. We’ve had a few interactions over the years… Lynne’s old mailing list many years ago, threads on reefkeeping recently. I spent a morning not long ago doubled over in laughter after reading someone’s innocent suggestion that perhaps you should think about writing a book 😀
You got your hooks into me 30 years ago when I was still a pre-teen. With Ischade, no less.
Another fish keeper, eh? Lol—I’m not supposed to be commercial on that forum. I thought I handled that with great discretion!
Welcome in!
Thank you – and you certainly did. Which, in itself, made it thst much more amusing. 🙂
Yeah, another fishkeeper. Freshwater since 76, saltwater since 86, reefs since 97.
I’m newly arrived and looking forward to lurking! Okay, it’s entirely possible I might do more than lurk, but it’s always best to under promise and over deliver.
Excellent. We all lurk on occasion, but now you’re vetted to comment when you like! Welcome in!
alright, yes, I have been lurking. well, here I am. lovely to meet you all!
Welcome to Chaos Central!
Hi all – I first met CJ and Jane many years ago at a small convention presented by Marion Zimmer Bradley… She has some of my work that I hope she wears…I am not doing much of anything these days….one of my daughters told me about the web site – this is my first visit – Never wrote on a blog before – Mostly I am retired with time hanging heavy….. the last thing I actually wrote was a play…… the local college at the time produced it….. it needs a rewrite before presenting to a publisher, and we got too busy with our jewelry business – so I never got back to it!!! 🙁 – Now that the old Demon “AGE” has gotten his grip on me – maybe I’ll get into it again……or something else. I do need an outlet…….. Somehow, I need some ammo to fight that Demon….
