…and forced to buy shoes.
Jane talked me into a pair of tennies. I cannot wear tennies. They cut the blood off to my toes. But Jane was driving. I had no choice. And I’m amazed. The whole story is on her site, and I won’t reiterate that, except to say that these shoes are supposed to give your lower body a workout, build muscle, etc…but what I notice is that they are blissfully comfortable even sitting down, the condition under which my feet generally lose all feeling and control due to blood loss from the lace-up. You WANT to wear these shoes. And if you try some on, try them on both feet: oddly enough, it matters. I usually slop about in a pair of clogs, but these—wow! You tend to want to move, just because it feels good. They surely come in men’s sizes too. I can’t believe ladies shoes would monopolize these. But they’re great.
Interesting. I hadn’t seen those. I have a similar problem. Most shoes hold my toes together, and I get excruciating metatarsal pain. I went with http://www.vibramfivefingers.com. They disappear on my feet, I can and do walk for miles in them, and my feet don’t hurt all the time anymore. I’m so happy to be out of pain I don’t care how they look.
These are so wonderful they just make you bounce as you walk, and they massage your feet while you sit down. I’ve never in my life had a pair that fit so well. The brand is Reebok Easy-Tone, and I looked and to my utter shock, they’re not making these in guy’s version. Well, me lads, they make ’em in black, and if equivalency helps, I wear a size 9 1/2 in these and a size M men’s flipflop. On the other hand you could deluge Reebok with letters of protest.
I’ll see if I can find a pair. My Fivefingers aren’t quite the ticket in snow. I have noticed that the women all look at my shoes with interest and the men with disdain. That may be why Reebok chose to wait on a men’s version.
Lol. I checked on the web and the nearest analog is a 250.00 MVT shoe for men. Unfair. And I think Reebok has the better design.
I had Earth Shoes waaaay back in the day (high school). Comfy, with curved soles.
Sounds great — I have high arches too and have been dealing with heel spurs since this last summer. I’ve found Ryka’s work really well too — they are designed with high arches, more narrow in the heel then most, and a bit broader at the toes. And they weight absolutely nothing. The Reebok sound great, but hope you got them cheaper than I’m seeing on the web! ouch.
OT, but there is no obvious place to post this.
Water has been discovered on the moon!
There is an excellent article about this at

For large numbers of other articles, type ‘moon water’ in Google News.
…or go to http://google.com and click on their moon ‘doodle’ in honor of the occasion. 🙂
Excellent! I meant to post that—it sure makes moon-living much more convenient. Of course the silly news sites were all abuzz with ‘the moon impact was a bust’ stories.
The most important thing about this is that Manny and Finn and Judge Brody in his younger days will have jobs in Luna.

Comfortable shoes are a torment for me to find. I have long middle toes which means the toes of most shoes are cut wrong for me. I have wasted huge amounts of money on shoes because fitters always want to put me in a size too large because of said toes which means the arch falls in the wrong place…..agony….only time I have ever had back problems. I have found that Reebok makes a walking shoe which is perfect if I get in the wide size…..also some styles of Merrill…..I’m nothing near athletic but I spend the better part of my day on my feet on cement floors….shin splints are no fun.
Such excellent news about the moon! Thanks for the link, GreenWyvern.
One of the differences between men’s and women’s shoes tends to be the placement of the arch: proportionately shorter in women’s shoes. I have a long and high arch, and women’s Reeboks are generally too ‘short’ for me. Men’s tennies have tended to fit better. These are the first shoes I have EVER had that actually support my arch, which is used to getting along on its own. They’re incredibly comfy, for that reason. They might have enough toe room. They come in one width, but I’m a medium to wide and they’re fine for me. The laces tend to adjust that just fine.
I’ll tell you one more sinful luxury I happened into. Bamboo socks. I got one pair when I got the shoes—and they’re wonderful. Soft as silk, but far from fragile, breathable, and odor-resistant. They’re actually made from bamboo fiber, and they feel wonderful, reducing friction in your shoes: they have a silken slippage, which means your foot can move. Ummm. I want half a dozen more of these.
