Green Wyvern reports a vertical display of the Closed Circle menu, with overlaps: we see it as horizontal.

I see:
Home | About | About Ebooks and Readers | Help! | Book Store | Closed Circle Bazaar
and appropriate sub-menus below those items, each displayed in a stacked item manner, e.g., beneath About I see:
CJ Cherryh
Jane Fancher
Lynn Abbey
And when I select CJ Cherryh I see (again, as stacked items):
Alliance-Union Universe
Fantasy
Midnight Rider (Finisterre)
The Writing Life: A Writer’s Journal
CJ’s Books
This behavior is consistent between FireFox 3.6.8 and I.E. 6.0.2900.5512
I’m using Safari on an older Mac notebook and like david above, I see a horizontal menu with the sub-menues appearng when I bring my cursor over them.
It looks the same as usual to me. Vista, Firefox, Sony Vaio.
looks the same to me, macbook, firefox
It looks fine here to me, Win7, Firefox 3.6.8. — I didn’t check IE8.
Green Wyvern could have an older OS or browser, and in any case, should try clearing the browser cache.
That (top-level menu bar shown vertically instead of horizontally) sounds like either a hiccup loading and applying the .css stylesheet, or a browser display issue. I have seen, even with a fast broadband home connection, where occasionally a web page will load poorly, not download all the resources it needs (such as stylesheets), and/or not properly apply them, such that even a well-established and tested site may display as though only half there, in terms of formatting and layout.
When it’s a problem of a stylesheet not fully (or not at all) downloaded, there will be other obvious formatting problems, such as very, very plain Times Roman text or other lack of decoration. A simple refresh/reload or clearing the cache and reloading the page should clear that.
When it’s a browser display problem, nearly all other things will be as intended, but perhaps thrown catty-wampus (hmm, spelling? LOL) or jumbled together (overlapping or offset, for instance).
But there could be a specific combo of OS and browser that’s throwing a fit. — Anything prior to IE6, for instance, is likely to have trouble displaying properly.
So, see what others report, and hopefully, Green Wyvern can report back today and over the next day or two, to work out what she or he is seeing.
I think I’ve found what’s causing it. I use AdBlock Plus, and if I switch it off, it looks okay. It seems that even though you don’t have ads on your site, it doesn’t like the javascript menu on the page, for some reason. So it will be okay for the vast majority of people.
Closed Circle used to be okay even with AdBlock Plus, so it’s either some upgrade to the site, or some upgrade to AdBlock Plus or one of its lists that’s causing it.
I haven’t seen this happen on any site, though – I guess it’s just one of those things.
Sorry for the hassle!
I don’t think you need to bother changing it. Probably not many people will see that problem.
Thanks for the help, however. I had to switch off AdBlock myself, because another site I frequent has this issue. You can turn it off temporarily, then switch it back on without too much fuss. What happened with the site is complicated, but it lost its transparency overlay in a general Word Press upgrade that ‘outmoded’ some of the features of the ‘store’ software we use—also WP, but the author has not yet upgraded it, and we are transparency-less and running with some color changes we had to institute because the site was messed up in general. So it may not be a permanent problem, just until the ‘store’ author upgrades to meet the current WP standard, or until we decide to use a new ‘store’ plug-in. We have a query in to the author which has not yet been answered; but if he opts to abandon the software and we have to install a new ‘store’ plug-in, we are in for a bit of a headache in adapting what we have, I fear.
Sorry for the inconvenience, and abundant thanks for telling us and working with us to identify the problem! Mischief sorta managed!
I have turned of Javascript (no plugins, just the browser option).
The page appears looks like always.
Horizontal menu at the top (no submenus)
Vertical, unfolded menu at the left side under the blank space where the slideshow should be (no Flash plugin) and the poll.
Here’s a screen grab of the main site on a 23″ widescreen monitor (using all but the leftmost 2″ or so):

That’s the way it should look. Thanks!
I see the same thing as chakaal …
