Jane and I decided to reward ourselves for our walking with a visit to the new sandwich shop in Garland district—but they weren’t open on weekends. The only thing left was a couple of fast-food no-ways and the Pancakes R Us, aka Waffles Plus. WHich is really good, a mile downhill and over. So…
We were bad. But bad doesn’t always pay off. When we got out, a wind was up.
Now, I’d coughed my way all the way downhill—couldn’t figure out why; but by the time we started back, the dust was evident: a duststorm obscured not only the mountains outside town, but the taller buildings, and all about, with about a 30 mph wind. Now, being an Oklahoman by origin if not birth—can I tell wind? I can tell wind. The official weather bureau statement is a steady 26 with gusts to 34. I honestly think a few of those went a little higher as I was coming up the road where it’s just carved into the hillside, with the wind coming full in my face.
Jane is younger by 10 years and wants a little more exercise, so after offering to go ahead home and get the car (half a mile away) and me saying no, I’d tough it out—she took off up the steeper fork of the walk, to go around the block and meet me the other side of Joan’s. That’s a harder route. A little longer. I went up the more direct and gradual slope, into the wind and dust all the wy, taking two pauses to rest on the low retaining wall. I got to the intersection before Jane, walked back on the side street to meet her, and we walked home in the dust storm…
We were pretty wiped. But we got cooled down—walking’s a good way to get overheated, which I was—and saw to the koi pond, which needed a filter cleaning.
The temperature is dropping. We’re going to have a high of 76 today, cooler tonight, and tomorrow, and some prospect of rain, which is good. I’m still coughing and wheezing from the dust. Mudpies, anyone? They say 40% chance of rain tomorrow, and I’m good with that.
Since the traction business, my upper back is moving far more freely, and actually getting some sensation beyond constant pain. I’ve been off pain pills for 2-3 days. This is good.
Glad the traction helped! You guys absolutely amaze me. You may have been achy but you’re always fearless – nay, courageous.
This is terribly off topic, but did you know that people sell iris rhizomes on Ebay? I am in the process of selling a lot of children’s toys there and just looked for irises and yep, there they are. It would of course require very considerable volume to make any money, but next year if you aren’t donating your excess to the church across the street, perhaps an ebay auction would make some sense.
Kokipy, please don’t tell me that your Short People have outgrown their American Girl dolls! Please tell me ASAP if they have — this Inquiring Mind really needs to know!
That IS a thought. These things are prolific. I should sit down with a catalog and actually identify them: so many came to us nameless.
It sounds like you had a kind of good day!! Just don’t get winded and take care of Miss Jane! ๐
coltsfoot, elecampane, sarsaparilla and slippery elm all soothing and toning for the lungs. suma- similar to ginseng, but better, and helps to oxygenate the blood. chaga- just had a customer come and relate a very interesting chaga info. he has bad lungs from something i can’t remember- had part of lung removed. he noted that the chaga tea has given him a good and solid lung capacity. this is the second person that has related this info. worth checking into- and the capsules, not that great. get it in bulk. make tea- it is actually very pleasant to drink, also boosts metabolism/ creates energy. minimising or eliminating dairy, also helps.. but that can be hard to do:) I had several years of faux-asthma, before chronic lyme got accurately diagnosed.. so yeah- know a good bit about lungs and breathing and what helps:)
The fickle British weather is doing something different:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/310?area=Brackley
So it’s off with my cardigan and back to shorts and T-shirt. Also got to unpack the aircon unit for the bedroom ๐
that doesn’t look very hot, andruec ๐
we are forecast max 20 next weekend …. it is warmer, but not boiling here …
the BBC weather people love to scare us with threats of heat waves – XC weather says 20 C at the weekend, BBC says 27C … oh well … mind you I think my week in Paris selling cotton cardigans for next spring will be warm enough to look like I’m selling next spring. thank goodness I don’t have to suffer in a marquee any more … I will be in a nice cool old house with high ceilings near the Louvre.
they are saying Indian summer for October .. now that WILL be nice ๐
Well, OSG, my dear, the younger of the two has not outgrown AG, but the older won’t play AG with her any more – after all, she’s twelve now, you know! — , so they have both agreed that the stuff should go. I spent most of the weekend taking pictures, combing dolls’ hair (at least they don’t scream when I work through the tangles, unlike other people I could name) and posting on ebay. If we are really lucky that item that formed your bedside table will have to be replaced before you arrive this winter ๐ I am also going to try to sell all the things I bought for them that they never loved, like the tiny Steiff bears (which I craved as a child. just goes to show, one should wait for a child to ask for something because one certainly can’t correctly anticipate their own cravings).
But the little one is still a little girl- she has just substituted Breyer’s horses for AG and spends most of her free time working with them in her room. And if we are really lucky we will be able to pay for a few riding lessons with the proceeds.
CJ, I can send you an Iris catalogue from a place called Schreiners – it is from a place in Oregon. Let me know if you are interested. It is encyclopedic.
Heh, well making predictions is always fraught but the Met Office also reckons 26 degrees for us later in the week. I’ve got another round of golf on Wednesday so I might have to take a bottle of water with me.
Unfortunately I also managed to tweak my shoulders/neck again at the weekend. Woke up on Sunday, stretched my arms then whimpered ๐
I’m wondering if it’s my relatively new Tempur over-mattress so I’m going to sleep without that for a few days. It’s annoying because it’s been over a year since I last had anything more than a twinge.
Not a patch on what CJ is going through, though – glad to hear you’re improving.
@Kokipy, I am interested.
@andruec, I just ordered that home traction device from Amazon. It’s not cheap, but freedom from pain is addictive. Jane (or any person who spends hours at a keyboard) can also use it. It’s very gentle—it’s basically the repetition of a very light tug at the right angle, and the one I ordered can adjust the angle, as well as the force of the pull, so I’ll get the strength and angle recommendations from my chiropractor.
Excellent. Should I just send it to OSG’s address and ask her to courier it over?
PM sent.
