You realize, of course, because of you and filk and Seanan McGuire, I’ve spent the past hour and a half watching Carmen Miranda videos on YouTube — not that that’s a bad thing ….chicka boom … chicka boom boom . . . .
One, two, cha-cha-cha (advanced samba)
The home computer is still authorized, but your spam filter does not like the computer IP from work. I have yet to test if I can post from other work computers. Up until yesterday, it was fine, then something took an irrational dislike to that addy.
I have your e-mail already; I hope that doesn’t expose you to spam scraper-bots!
Not a problem. Thanks!
Now I’m gonna have to get that book!
The Leslie Fish recording of the song is awesome. In fact, her other songs, filk especially, are pretty awesome.
I think she may also be the lady who wrote “Banned From Argo.” She did indeed record the song. Hee-hee-hee. (Mine is an evil laugh.)
There are at least two of Leslie Fish’s albums on iTunes and Amazon as MP3, and I think on CD also. You can find a site for her on the web. (I don’t have the link handy, sorry.)
…And now I’m in the mood to hear those…
For Leslie Fish: One slightly misspoke. On Amazon and iTunes, search for ” Leslie Fish “, then search for ” Dr. Demento’s Hits From Outer Space “. Also look for ” Carmen Miranda’s Ghost “, ” Carmen Miranda’s Ghost Is Haunting Space Station Three ” and ” Banned From Argo “.
These will get you her songs and will turn up the book.
The Dr. Demento CD is very good, all filk and novelty recordings of SF&F favorites.
See Also: LeslieFish.com — her website. CD’s and MP3 downloads and lyrics are available there, and other goodies fans would appreciate.
I ordered the book. All copies Amazon’s showing are used, out-of-print, and…it costs more in postage than the book, which is somehow distressing for a reader, for a good paperback book.
I wonder, could that title (an anthology, looks like) be reissued as an ebook?
Got me one (book), too. Will have to check out Leslie Fish. Anybody whose mind could combine Carmen Miranda and a space station is my kinda people.
If you haven’t heard Banned From Argo, be sure to check it out too.
Banned from Argo is a classic Star Trek filk, about the hijinks certain members of a certain crew get up to when they go on shore leave. I have it on my driving playlist 🙂
I have confirmed that it is all the computers I normally post from at work that are being blocked. I do not know what changed as of Thursday last.
@chondrite: maybe the computerpeople at work changed a setting for the internet-blocker they use, or the service they subscribe to for that changed something?
If they’ve blocked all ‘chat’-sites, and consider posting on a blog as chat, it might be something like that?
At my work they use Trend Micro, and I’m unable to access Closed-Circle, because they block internet-sites of ‘lifestyle’ (?!), but the blogs are fine.
I’m also unable to access the radio listings because they block all kinds of sites that have streaming radio somewhere in the site, due to blocking sites for ‘bandwidth’. The designation of which category a site falls into seems very arbitrary to me, as YouTube is freely visible, and lots of other sites that I’d consider much more a ‘lifestyle’-site are visible, as well as all the other bookstore-sites I’ve ever tried.
The blocking emanates from the CC side of things. If it were from our side, we’d have an IronPort popup informing me that the site was forbidden. I’m just waiting for the day when I can’t get to sites like tor.com and PW, which are relevant for my job.
Hmmm. I believe it. Thank you. I’m putting that piece of information in file, and at this point I can only apologize. I’ll bring it up where useful.
