Awright! I refuse, absolutely refuse to admit what I forgot to do. Too many irons in the fire is my only excuse and even I’m not buying that. But the download should now work! If it doesn’t…wait ten minutes before telling me. I wanna go take a shower! :D—>J
THE BUTTON ISN”T WORKING YET: WE ARE POSTING RIGHT NOW DON”T CLICK IT yet!!!! Here, my friends, is the first freebie download. It’s a zip of Closed Circle’s first publication, and I need feedback. The request for name and e-mail? We’re puzzled by that too, but that’s the way the downloader wants to work, and we just toss it. It will send you an e-mail with the link, then forget the address. It will come from something called your-domain, but that’s us. We’ll fix that later. Now it sends it from ” authors@closed-circle.net ” so be sure to prepare your spam filter and declare us to be friendlies, or ‘trusted’, or it will almost certainly stick in your spam filter. The transmission should be instantaneous, so if you don’t find it in the next few seconds, it’s in the spam filter.
I’m already aware of a couple of glitches in the ‘reverse of the title page’ of the epub version, which don’t manifest in the mobi version, plus a duplication of the signature image, and a strange page break on the first of the text. I think I know where they come from, and I’m going to fix it. What I need to know is whether these artifacts are showing up in other types of files: FB2, RTF, LIT, etc. And if you are detecting more glitches further on in the epub files or find any in the Mobi files.
Just unzip the omnifile, pick your file type, and load that file into your reader. Then tell me what you know. I hope you will enjoy the little book.
The Writing Life: A Writer’s Journal Vol 1
It starts sedately, in 2004, as we attempt to survive a very warm fall; and proceeds through computer misfortunes and a comedy of disasters: my book in question is likely Pretender. And trying to write—well, when people ask me how do I find time to write, I think the answer is—it’s a mystery. FREE!
[wp_eStore_free_download:product_id:1:end]
“Could not send the download link” (popup window)
“Warning: Division by zero in /home/lynnabbe/public_html/cherryh/WaveWithoutAShore/wp-content/plugins/wp-cart-for-digital-products/eStore_classes.php on line 21” repeated a bunch of times.
I confirm Walt’s results, as of noon EST.
Likewise the same problem, as of 17.28 GMT. I’m using MacBook, running Firefox 3.5
My attempt to download keeps saying Please enter your email address, even though I did. Also, although the request is for Name and Email there is only one entry box, it does not seem to make a difference if I click on Name or Email before entering information, or enter both pieces of information in the box.
I’m using Firefox on a PC with very good hardware and net conncection.
Nope: still dividing by zero.
I promise you—we will revise the Post and give you a go the MINUTE we get this fixed. RIght now it’s functioning as as “Wet Paint” sign. 😆 Yep, it’s still wet. We know what the problem is: we’re in touch with Abbey to get the information we need to plug into a blank and then it will work. Abbey, meanwhile is trying to FIND the information we need.
This is soooooo exciting! Good thing I’m not here this PM……else I might start doing what Proge calls wildly punching random buttons! Oh the good luck to all! 😆
It was me earlier trying to download. I don’t know
if there was a warning then. I was having a bad
time waiting for some pills to kick in. Sorry, sorry!!
I touched it. I had to! I’m sorry! ;D
Hehe, poor computer, trying to divide by zero. Why don’t they teach limits to computers? Just approach zero asymptotically and you’ll be fine!
Can’t wait ’til the paint is dry!
Yay! Magical button of writerly goodness dispenses its glory to me in pristine pdf format!
I almost asked you an asinine question and then I
realized that you had your hands full.
Well, maybe some of you fiends can tell me,what did I do to lose the smileys? They used to hang
around the reply box didn’t they?
Azureblu, I get a smiley automagically when I type the text in my reply — ; – ) with no spaces produces 😉
‘Course I don’t know all the possible text versions …
Carolyn, I have valiantly not touched that tempting “download now” button. It was HARD to refrain!
p.s. the “download now” button is very pretty, with the pale swirls around the logo. Nice touch.
And now it works!
You’ll get an e-mail from something called your-domain: we haven’t ironed that out yet, but that’s us!
Go pat Jane on the back—she’s worked on this from before breakfast, and made it work! She also created that pretty download button. http://www.janefancher.com/TheCaptainAndLime/
Worked here fine – though it took a little time to persuade my email program that no-honestly-its-not-spam-or-porn-or-something-nasty as it did not like the your-domain bit. Once I’d beaten it around the ears a few times I was able to follow the link and download it without any problems.
I’m viewing the document as a PDF on a macbook pro with 13inch screen and it is very legible and easy to read.
Thank you
YAY!!!!
We have lived and breathed this site since March, and it’s begun to work!
cool, it works.
email came from authors at closedcircle.net so guess you got that fixed. No problems downloading or unzipping.
Kindle for PC opened the mobi fine.
Microsoft Readr opened the lit
hmm, all the epub opened ebookpublisher. Must have it set as a default somewhere. Sigh, I have at least three versions of epub on my computer.
rtf opened fine and converted to rb which I then used eBookwise Librarian to convert for the eBookwise.
Mobipocket Reader I had to open and add the prc to but then it opened with no problems.
Love the cover!
Thank you! As you can tell, I did that one: kind of a pseudo leather cover for an *ahem* scholarly tome: the other two volumes I think are prettier. Meaning Jane was busy doing the Faery one.
And please, guys, at this point, pick nits—if you spot problems in the text, let me know. I want to (sob) give that epub one more go to get rid of that glitchy copyright symbol and the peculiar duplication of the signature page…
What do you think of the signature page? E-books are an odd way for us to procede: we’re used to signing things. So we thought this would be a warm-fuzzy for a reader.
Was sneaking peaks at your site all day at work and couldn’t wait to get home to try it. The download worked fine for me. I’ve got an iMac and I use Stanza as the reader. Bring on the books – I’m ready to pay!!!
WELL, I am on an old fossil of a computer with no new software, no fancy readers or anything like that, but it downloaded fine and I am able to read it with no problems! WOOHOO!! I’m hoping for a neat new reader for Christmas, but even if I don’t get one, I can still access this just fine on my clunker computer. Well done! 🙂 🙂
FYI…I’m going to try to fix it so it doesn’t end up in spam folders. I thought it was the email address, which I’d forgotten to change, but it’s still going into my spam box, so it might be the subject line. Will try another subject.
Details…it’s all in the expletive-deleted details.
Thanks for your patience, all.
Downloaded to an Asus EEE running Linux; opened just fine as a PDF.
Thanks!
