As of last year, I’d traveled 465,159,024,000 kilometers with the sun…

I’ve traveled 2,177,427,894,000 kilometers through the universe, counting the galaxy’s speed with the local group, but not counting the spiral revolutions of the earth, or the larger spiral of the sun’s revolutions around the galaxy.
One’s little particles continually being linked with particles that could be clear across the universe, and some of them going Lord knows where, I’m just a little dizzy.
I think I shall remedy that with some champagne today.

have you also tried calculating probable speed at which you have been traveling?

all mostly well in VT- irene did some serious damage. I had no idea, since I stick in my little corner.. but others said the same thing.. everything might seem fine, but then a mile down the road, total devastation. roads, main roads.. just.. gone. over a dozen historic covered bridges.. gone ( no idea where the trolls end up with that eviction:)… a lot of people still in a state of shock… but vermonters are hearty and resilient:) and no chance of “shock doctrine” here.. thank god:)
I love the question of where the trolls end up if the bridge goes out. I suppose it’s also a problem in droughts or floods. Hadn’t considered there could be too many hazards in being a troll, not counting the difficult billy goats or that peculiar human kid or two. So does this mean when the economy’s bad and there are more homeless people running around, the trolls and homeless folks have to contend with each other? Huh, such questions to ponder. Well, my older cat has just decided such questions are better to ponder when he’s lying down on my arm, to inhibit (or inhabit, perhaps?) my typing…. I feel sure cats are of some use in dealing with trolls.
There is absolutely a story in this idea.
So where do you go to redeem the frequent flyer miles (er, kilometers)?

Hmm.. if my little particles are linked with little particles clear across the universe, I wonder where I’m going, and I wonder where I’ve been…..oh well, it’s all relative, isn’t it? 😀
That could depend. whose relatives? If they are some two trillion kilometers away, one is safe in presuming they are distant relations. Then again, Carl Sagan contended we are all made of star-stuff. Oh, who knows, happy birthday, trolls and Tau Ceti III.
What would a troll want for his/her/one’s birthday? Sunflowers? water lilies? Cat tails? (Rushes, no cats involved, as the cats would object. Strenuously. Well, wouldn’t you?)

Oh, we are all most definitely star-stuff. The planet of which we come is recycled, bigtime, from a previous generation: a big star produced our iron core—a very bad thing for a star, but a very nice thing for a planet—and gave us our jim-dandy stellar construction kit, which produced millions and billions and trillions of little bits that finally worked out to one pocket-sized sun, four, maybe more iron-centered bits, three gas giants who run mini-systems, and a whole lot of scrap bits that still come sailing in occasionally trying to join up. 😉 So star-stuff we are. Recycling at its finest!

It’s probably a good thing that we are not aware of the rotation of the earth, or the motion of the earth around the sun, or the motion of the sun around the center of the galaxy. Especially since some of us have enough trouble walking across level unobstructed ground as it is.
😆 I used to confront my sophomore students with the question, “Why is there day and night?” and it was frightening to see the moment of panic. Students get so used to reciting certain answers only in certain rooms. The idea that the Latin class might ask a science question was just boggling.
Then I would ask, “Which way is ‘up’?” once they were in that context—and hands would point in various directions. 😆

recycling at its finest, indeed. but then it also sort of makes the whole age concept obsolete.. since all of those particles are millions of years old… and esp since we are continually renewing and replenishing the cells of the body… how should/ can one truly calculate our age…? Are we the average age of all the components of our bodies? try calculating that number… double dog dare ya:)
