And this one has a week more to run…it’s not snowing today, but will tomorrow through next Sunday, and then the next BIG storm hits. We got over a foot from the last one, and had to clear our trees of snow; the snow was so wet you don’t want to ask how much extra poundage was in the snow standing 3″ deep on branches that had felt no wind for days.
Jane’s decorating for the holidays. She is very good at this. I am not. I’ll pitch in for the slightly less artistic trimming of the tree!
A foot of snow in November and more on the way? Yikes! I’ll stop whining about it being 40 degrees (F) and raining!
Sounds like you are La Ninaing with a vengeance. Our long range weather forecast says this will be a wetter than usual winter; I hope they are right. The low rainfall the past few years has put many areas in drought conditions.
Do you have your disaster kit? Enough food and water if you got snowed in?
More importantly, do you have an alternate source of heat if the furnace is electric?
If it’s gas, do you know how to run it without the (electric) thermostat? Or does your thermostat have a battery backup? [This is crucial, really.]
Yes? Good to go.
Been there, done that, have the not-wool scarf.
I hope your power doesn’t go out — I just realized that your fish are all tropical, or rely on heaters! More than a couple of days without heat, and all your hard work (and fishies) will be in deep kim chee. Maybe a small generator would be in order.
Looks like the Spokane weather has paid a visit ton the UK over the last few days with temperatures during to negative twenty celius which is as cold as I can ever remember this month getting and it has been accompanied by a lot of snow. Looks like a long, hard winter.
we seem to have la Nina too – or something of the sort. snow was a rarity in the UK from the mid-90’s to the late noughties – we thought climate change had ameliorated our winters – no such luck! only 0 C over here on the east coast, but enough snow to make things a bit miserable and the roads a disaster
I put up a string of icicle lights last night. I thought they looked neat, but Aloysius decided otherwise and pulled them down to make a nest for himself. Obviously I need to rethink my approach to avoid the helper cats.
Cold enough the last two nights to have ice on pond and pool with very little melting during the day. It’s very sunny and warm on the south side of the house. This is *very* strange weather. It’s the end of November and we have lit the wood stove four times. I assume La Nina has something to do with it, although it feels more like El Nino. Guess I need to do some reading up.
Stay warm and safe. 😉
Lay in a supply of coffee, chocolate and wine. Oh, I suppose toilet paper and cat food, too.
There ya go! All set! 🙂
Here in Salt Lake City we had major storm warnings, high wind conditions, lots of local news coverage of the incoming storm, and then . . . about two inches of snow, just before Thanksgiving.
Then, when the next storm looked to be rolling in, we ignored the warnings. And woke up yesterday to 10 inches of snow. This morning, it’s 7 degrees at my house. Another storm predicted for tomorrow.
In southern Arizona (20 miles from Mexico) the water in the dog dish was frozen solid this morning. No precipitation but roaring winds and cold weather. High today predicted to be in the 40s.
You all be careful. It’s coming down here again.
It’s like an Indian Summer here in NE Oklahoma; chilly in the wind but nice and sunny otherwise.
