We got very nice prezzies, warm slippers, and a tin of Almond Roca that is now put away. We pigged out on candy for lunch, and watched the How to Train your Dragon series and Lion in Winter, our Christmas movie! I got Jane an exercise thingie and she got me some unpainted BJD cat-folk that I’m going to paint: I don’t ‘do’ BJD’s, in that I have no impulse to ‘have’ them, but I love doing pencilwork on them, so the plan is that I create their face-ups, turn them into colored and painted dolls, Jane puts them in clothes, and we sell them on Etsy… Meanwhile maybe the exercise thingie can work off the way too much Almond Roca.
Neither of us wants to see sugar for months! This will even include New Years.
Beware Almond Roca! In case you need a reason to be circumspect, I once busted a tooth on Almond Roca. You have been warned. Just sayin’, ye know. 😉

You’re right, I don’t see Chanur’s Homecoming. I just looked quickly and assumed it was the first three, not 1,2, & 4. The books I saw/bought come up if you search by ‘Nook books’ or ‘Nook store’ instead of ‘all products’ or books. I have noticed a lag when new books are posted as Nook books – they don’t always come up immediately in the other listing.
What I’m seeing being offered as Nook books in the ‘Nook store’ are:
The Pride of Chanur, The Kif Strike Back, Chanur’s Venture. Each is listed as a Nook book published by Penguin, so I was taking them as legit. They are $5.99 each. I’ve bought two so far. I don’t have my Nook with me to check but they are showing up in my online library as available to read.
They also have Foreigner 2 (Invader) & 3 (Inheritor) (finally) for $7.99 each offered as Nook books.
CJ, are these legit or have I bought from a pirate?
Another thing, they are displaying the original covers, which is also why I thought they were legit.

I hear ya on the sugar! We’ve got cookies, pie and candy-dipped pretzel sticks, plus a bag of peppermint bark. I’m avoiding all of it right now, and actually craving savory things instead. Happy New Year to all!
I still have a LOT of a most delicious fewer-calories-than-usual corn casserole from yesterday’s lunch (I only had 3 helpings!). That sort of negates making it less calorie-laden but who cares? I lost 0.4 at weigh-in this morning.
Your Wiishu looks much more cheerful than photos I’ve seen online of Other People’s BJD’s. Any idea why the others all look so melancholy?
Part of it is angle: his expression changes a bit as you move about and pick the photographic angle; but part of it is the ‘face-up’ or the paint that is applied to create the character, and Wiishu’s is just that of a happy little house-elf. He’s a Shi-woo sculpt (every facial type/variation pre-paint has a name of style) which is also a happy sculpt. Some sculpts are made forever sad or gloomy, but they’re not my cup of tea. When I’m ‘down,’ I don’t want surroundings that reflect that: I want something cheerful…and Wiishu specializes in cheerfulness and a child’s view of the universe. Jane can tell you a ton of info on the BJDs, but I just know I’m glad he’s the type he is: he makes everybody smile.
We had a nice holiday dinner at my parents with family friends and my BFF. My 91 year old dad put away quite a hearty dinner which, considering that he usually eats like a bird is heartening indeed. We had ham and green beans and yams and potatoes, and a good time was had by all.
The Chanur books are also available in kindle format. Just ordered all three (even though I have paperbacks and hardcover versions already…..wink).
I’m glad you have the paper versions, because Amazon Kindle carries the same books as in Saga: Pride and two of the three trilogy books. No Homecoming nor Venture.
It’s deeply frustrating. I have a friend who I think would love the series, but he only buys new, dead tree books.
Oh….I was referring to the three NOOK format books mentioned above….not inferring that three books = the total Chanur saga (grin). I probably got the paperbacks back in the 70’s and upgraded to hardcover later. Now I like having at least some of the Chanur books with my via kindle. I assume the rest of the books will appear in e-book format in the future (????).
I see only the first three of the five Chanur books listed as presently available for Kindle. I will hope the other two, and the combined Saga (with the first three) will be out soon.

— Walt, my advice? Get your friend used copies in good condition and give them to him as a gift. Once he starts reading, I’m sure he’ll forget all about whether the book is brand new. — I used to turn my nose up at used PB and HB. No longer. I’ve had very good luck with used books in good condition from Amazon sellers. But more than once, I’ve bought a book used for an awfully low price, and felt guilty because the writer wasn’t getting more from a now long out-of-print edition.

I don’t know if I can do it, but I’m thinking about using some of the Big Cats, so to speak, as the pattern for more than one of these anthropomorphic feline BJD’s. I think Clouded Leopard might be really pretty.
Possibly using a Q-tip to get the fuzzy effect.
I’ve thought about doing Chanur, but these are very delicate, humanoid felines. They don’t quite resemble the hani. Unless I could work one over.

If those BJD’s are the Hugoo Freyr / Freya — too kawaii to be hani without mods, IMHO. (Hmm, but what would I know about what hani kids read or watch? Hani-toons?)
On the other hand — Right now the title escapes me, I think it may have been a secondary character from Cuckoo’s Egg, but I’d thought it was another book — The young alien who was unhappy he still has his childish spots — I’d imagined that as something like the spots various cats have, as the aliens were more carnivora than, say, a (deer) fawn.
The clouded leopard spots, or something like them, might be a fun challenge to do for coloring a BJD.
