We gain a little every day. I’ve kicked off 424 spammers, and we still have 1100 honest readers who are very welcome here! For those of you new to the site—there are 4 interconnected sites: this one, and Closed Circle, which is where we sell e-books and everything else that brings in funds to keep us going and keep the lights on, and there are also the blogs of the 2 other members of Closed Circle, Jane Fancher’s The Captain and Lime; and Lynn Abbey’s Face of Chaos. Links to those sites are over on the left sidebar <---- filed under Closed Circle Sites. Note that your very first comment won't show up until I personally vet it to be absolutely sure you're not a bot, so you might as well make a comment so I can do it and clear you through---and so you don't get stuck someday waiting for me to notice, where there's a topic afoot you're just dying to say something about in a timely way. Welcome, welcome, welcome!
1100 members, people! Congratulations to us all!

Hi,
I’ve only been lurking here since before this was here–since the Progress Report days. The Progress Report often helped with homesickness when I lived away from the region.
I’m a student again at the moment and finding your Latin lessons extraordinarily helpful, as well as your grammar commentary on English.
Welcome!
Hmm. Methinks you’re spending too much effort to get rid of your spammers, C.J. Really, they make technology for that. Check out the following WP Plugins.

Of course, you may not need all of those, but the security ones certainly dropped the spammers right out of our blogging experience.
The list is much appreciated, and I will check it out, including Edit Comments.
Don’t I have RSS feed? What’s that little symbol up at the top of the blog? I’ve been meaning to ask you that. Or what was it you were hoping I’d install?
Got the stat counter. Jane’s got Flicker. And I think Lynn keeps us backed up. I’m running Akismet, but all it ever catches are (with 3 exceptions in most of a year) our own members trying to cite a link—probably a hundred or more of those: our members do give us links! I just upgraded it, however, so maybe it will do better.
I’ve never had somebody actually post spam, though they try.
You have RSS feed, but it’s pretty slow and generally at least 4 hours behind. And I see you now have a little notify button.
Really?
I find that it updates sufficiently fast, at least fast enough that the check by the reader I use gives all new posts since the last check and my reader checks all ten minutes.
The entry posts on Ms. Fancher’s blog are truncated, which is a bit annoying, and the posts could use a better naming scheme (omitting the post author in the title), so I could collapse the threads by topic.
Otherwise the RSS feeds work great for me and I have used them ever since their introduction.
As matter of fact, I just requested a manual check and my post is their. Have you looked in your reader settings? Mine initially had a very long check time.
I don’t keep the feed active all the time. And when I do kick it off the posts are about 4 hours behind. I’m just using a basic feed through an add-on to firefox. So, I generally just click on Most Visited every once in a while.
Oh, yeah – you’ve got an RSS feed. I don’t know if you have one for the comments, but (being the self-centered person that I am), I usually only want to know when somebody’s replied to one of my comments. 😉
Subscribe to Comments lets you check a box when you post a comment, so that any replies come to you via email, rather than having to check back (or, as I’ve taken to doing, leaving the window open so that when I’m done with other things I can look back here … unless I’ve closed my browser, in which case I drop out of the conversation).
And now you’ve got that check-box! Woo hoo!
Hi,
I’ve also been lurking for awhile. Just checked out Deliever at my local library. It has been really popular and this was my first chance to read it. So far I am really enjoying it, but I did find a word that was left out. (My access is through libray computers so someone else may have already mentioned it.)
On page 25 at approximately the 5th paragraph “He did not to be…” I think the word “want” is missing.
Must have gotten dropped somewhere in the editing process.
Welcome!
Re the plugins—I’ve added some. I have no way to test how they look to members, so I hope you’ll advise me what changes you see. I have spotted a “Manage Subscriptions” item below the Reply box.
Yep – so, I’m now going to get any follow-on comments sent to me via email. 🙂
::dances::
Sent to clear me through in case I want to comment in future.
