I’m having more and more mental dropouts recently. I keep telling myself it’s the new job and the intense learning curve, but it really doesn’t help when I’m talking to my boss and forget a particular word. (He’s done it lots before too, but, still…)
To my knowledge the 4th captain was never named after Phoenix returned from Reunion. Jase became the 4th, then Ramirez died and they left for Reunion. Unless Ogun was able to appoint a 4th by himself, none was ever named and the focus of politics for the last year has been on the planet.
Remember how Ramirez got in the condition he was in when Jase found him and protected him? Who was that fourth captain, the juniormost captain, named in Defender, page 61, as well as Precursor, where Bren shot him as Ilisidi was coming across from the shuttle.
Right. There’s a mention in Defender (p256) of Ogun being supposed to appoint a fourth on the station when Phoenix left, but I can’t find any indication in Destroyer of that actually having happened — or at least the new fourth is never named or introduced.
(There was also, briefly, Dresh (Tamun’s follower) in Precursor.)
Lol—the banner will have to get fixed: I did a security upgrade, and we have ‘generic’ banners. 😉
Ellarien, I think you may have it. Ogun is the senior captain, Ramirez died, prompting the mission to recover Reunion, Tamun was killed, and Jase was shoved into office. So Ogun holds the key. And I’ll guarantee you the new captain is NOT Yolande Mercheson!
So, Bren has now killed two “usurpers”? Tamun and Murini? Bloody hell on them, isn’t he? I didn’t see in Precursor where he killed Tamun, just that he wounded him and put him in the infirmary. Maybe a doctor “withheld” treatment???? Murini we know Bren shot, since it’s distinctly stated that he was shot with a small caliber weapon, and that everyone was discreetly saying NOTHING about Bren’s handgun.
That brings up a point, though…..if Bren’s gun is a small caliber weapon, how is it that he’s able to trade magazines and ammunition with others in the group when they storm ashore from Geigi’s boat?
Good question, but Jago and possibly others, have some items they don’t advertise either. I was probably thinking of the heavier weapons in the comparison. Bren’s gun is a small handgun such as atevi would actually use—it came from Banichi, originally. Now, just how he manages to conceal this thing in his pockets has something to do with how heavy the brocade is in his coats and his preference for patch pockets.
Don’t we have 8 other “Taylor’s Children” on the ship. Perhaps one of them?
I’m re-reading Precursor right now. We have, initially, Ramirez, Ogun, Sabin and Tamun. Ramirez is shot, but he is able to countermand the choice of Dresh as 4th Captain, seating Jase. Tamun is shot in that very dramatic almost last scene of the book (whoot!). When Ramirez passes, they are down to Ogun, Sabin and Jase, leaving Ogun on station and Sabin and Jase with Phoenix.
I thought, at the moment, there are/were only three. Certainly Ogun wouldn’t have appointed a fourth, except in an emergency, without some input from the other two. Or so I presumed. One might have been appointed in the last several months, of course, but I do not remember any mention of this.
Perhaps in your notes among scenes considered but never realized in written fable…?
Gah. I can’t remember the names of my characters these days!
I have just finished a major SF adventure novel — 141,019 words — and now I’m at the ‘Is it really done? Don’t you need to do something more? Oh come on, it’s not that good’ stage.
2:30 in the morning. I think maybe sleep is wise at this point.
But hey, the book is done. Rewritten and twice edited. The cover is even mostly done.
Oh! And I forgot to say I couldn’t wait for the signed hardcover and bought a Nook copy of the new book! That was GREAT! It’s a wonder I got anything done!
And I’d think Geigi is a little old for that. . .arent’ there supposed to be Atevi being trained to fly their ship, (which is abuilding and unnamed as far as I know yet)?
I have been writing on various things. Think something’s trying to shake loose, or shake together, but so far, not past that plateau of writing experience yet. But good, because I’ve been churning out pages of stuff, even if it’s not one story, not finished, and only somehow related. My subconscious is up to something, and my writing’s *trying* to grow. So…all in all, happy. Finally, finally tracked down the answer to a web page problem that’s been bugging me for months. Finally got an answer that worked! So…happy there too.
“Defiance,” a new series, is on SyFy tonight. I will have to wait for it on iTunes, as my cable box is toast and I can’t remember to take it in to be replaced. Might be a good series. Some good ppl there.
— I expect to read in Protector tonight, if I’m not writing more. 🙂
Josefa Sabin.
The guy who’s actually come down to the planet. One of Taylor’s Children. (My brain is refusing to play along at the moment.)
The other guy who was a captain in Ramirez’ administration. Name starts with a “D”, I think???
Okay, totally blew that. Ogun (should have remembered; he’s named after a deity) and Jase(paidhi.)
I’ve totally forgotten the fourth captain’s name.
Jase Graham
…there we go. Thanks.

Ogun. Sorry can’t remember his first name.
Isn’t it something like Julius? Jules?
It’s Jules Ogun (who stayed home from the voyage to handle the station), Josepha Sabin, Jase Graham…and…
Pratap Tamun, Stani Ramirez, Josefa Sabin, Jules Ogun, and then after Tamun was “removed” (or was he killed by Bren’s shot?) Jason Graham.
The new banner looks delicious.
Password changed. I like the new banner.

That’s in line with what I remember. Maybe a new 4th has been appointed in the last year, but we don’t know who it is.

Oh, yes: the banners are gorgeous. (And some are promising to be tasty.)

Fourth captain’s name is… Dangling Thread.
🙂

Don’t ask me the character’s names, though.

Could make Tabini a happy kitten and put Geigi in the 4th seat
Nah; it would have to be someone from the transportation guild…
Like …
Lol—Geigi—running a starship….new territory explored. Geigi is many things, but that would ask a bit of him. 😉
What’s holding up the Protector shipments is the USPO, which has still not gotten us our shipping materials. Should be in, maybe today.
Oh, I couldn’t have waited even 24 hours. I went straight out and bought the ebook. LOL.
Loved it. Can’t wait for the next one.

The company really should come to your house and replace it. That way they can demonstrate all their new and expensive services.
