…at the factory. But we think we’ve got it handled.
The new Easy Blade scraper works really well, which will enable us to clean all the front glass, beyond arm’s reach, even with coralline.
And, after 2, count ’em, two trips to Lowe’s in a 40 mph gale, I got all the pieces I need except the 2 valves. We have the tank plumbed, ready to connect to the sump. We have determined we didn’t get enough rock for the rockwork we want.
We have some planning on the rockwork, we have the eggcrate liner laid down, we’ve got everything ready to plug in except we need the bottom ‘junk’ rock to lay down as a base for the prettier rockwork, and we need to start unbuilding the main tank WITHOUT stirring its sandbed, which is incredibly bad juju in a marine tank. That’s where, once we start to move, we need to have our wits about us and hours when shops are open to work in. So since the fish store doesn’t open until Wednesday, we’d be crazy to start this going— without recourse to them for additional rock, to take the fish I want to get rid of, to take the coral I want to trade in, and to be open and able to provide things I forgot to get.
So tomorrow may be a day off from this, except for connecting up the new drain line and pulling some of the old hose up to give us more maneuverability with the elephant-dance above. We’ll later cut it off, when the ability to go out from the wall is less important.
“WE’VE IDEE’D THE SUBSTANCE AS LIKELY SILICONE, HAVING GOTTEN THERE VIA A WIPING RAG…”
Oh, what Charlie Pierce might do with that as a topic sentence… 🙂
Lol…
And apropos of nearly nothing…
Here’s a hurricane on Saturn! http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/videogallery/index.html?media_id=162271631
That’s so cool!!!! Long winter…
Hurricane on Saturn? Methinks the methane breathers, knnn, t’ca, and chi, aren’t having a good time!
Oh dear, somehow, that just collided with “Shiver me timbers!” and now I’m seeing methane-folk as piratical privateers flying the Jolly Roger.
No, neither vodka nor rum nor tequila nor aught else was involved….
I suspect it takes the signal hitting the synapse on just the right vector…
And now for something on a higher (and faster) plane. SpaceShipTwo has flown supersonic! Video included:

Woot! One more step to the stars!
Snoopy dance!!!!!!
yay!
Nabbed another spammer. If they were brighter, they’d be ever so much harder. As it is— I’m liking that new feature that lines them up for me. Saves a lot of time.
Just finished “Protector” — If I was into fanfic, I’d write one where an older Irene goes against her mother and enlists Jason and Lord Geigi to get her back downworld so she can study with Bren and eventually become his successor when he retires to Najida. CJ, feel free to steal the idea. You’d do a much better job of it than I would.
I prrrrrrrrrrrromise you there is good stuff to come. I wish it could be out now!
Looking forward to it. I suspect we all have our own ideas of what Irene, and her mother, are coming from (and headed). I know I do.
(Currently reading “Invader” as part of a long-delayed reread of the series, having located my copies of eleven of the books.)
Ah the great promised re-read of the whole Foreigner collection. That was a much delayed project – rather like buying my current flat (apartment). Most of my books have been in storage for ten years, and it was only moving at the end of last year that re-united both halves of my collection. And my whisky too…
While a nice man was building a new bit of kitchen for me yesterday, I set-to on the flat pack bookshelves – which are a more my level of carpentry skills sadly. Should be finished by tonight. Then the books come out of hiding, and some other boxes fill up the cupboard they’re in. Then I can choose what to re-read. Joy!
In a Christmas re-boxing marathon (to get them all in one cupboard and fish out the CDs/DVDs) I mined my book boxes for goodies. I struck a rich seam of Cherryh. I managed to find all my Foreigners, amazingly, and I’ve had a good old Cherry-thon for the last couple of months. Which is what got me reading this site again. I’ve read up to Intruder now, and lost a lot of sleep. Publishers should be forced to put several blank pages at the end of chapters printed with GO TO SLEEP YOU IDIOT, to force you not to ‘just read one more before bed’.
That was immense fun. So much in fact that I followed it with 5 doses of Chanur. It’ll almost be like having hundreds of new books to choose from.
Currently I’m decorating and not reading much, but I’ve got a history of the 1950s space program to finish, and then it’s a choice from the pile by my bed. Japanese carrier operations at Midway, The Seven Years’ War, Finity’s End or some Larry Niven? Choices choices…
Anyway enjoy your re-reading. I hope you are better disciplined than me, and don’t find yourself turning out the light at 3 am.
That scene in the basement where Tatiseigi (sp?)is showing Irene his prized porcelains and lets her hold one is priceless. I think she just jacked his estimation of Humans up a notch.
