Just got my own first look at the cover (Barnes and Noble) and it’s nice!

That wail that you heard echoing about the world was me discovering that the download of the MSReader and it’s attendant 20 support files have
destroyed, erased, evaporated or what ever over two
thirds of my personal files. They weren’t saved,
Linda was going to show me how to use the stick
but has been too busy lately. Grump…..
Aaaagh. I can’t imagine how that could happen.
If you’ve got a pointing stick, you use it with your middle finger, then use your thumb for the mouse buttons. If you’ve got one of those freestanding mini-sticks, it’s much the same. You have to go into the StartMenu/Control Panel/Mouse functions and “enable” the pointing stick, which can be enabled safely at the same time as the touchpad or any other mouse. You just try not to use both at the same time.
I’m upset about those files (not as upset as you, I’m sure!) and cannot figure how it could erase anything. I’m hoping they’re just lost on the disk. If you know any of the file names of the missing files, go to the Windows “search” functions in the Start menu and see if it can find one.
Have you checked your Recycle Bin? Usually deleted things go into there and can be retrieved unless you dump it. Also make sure it wasn’t just the icons that got changed. Sometimes when you install a new document reader it changes all of the icons over to something unfamiliar and skimming through them you might just be missing your usual visual markers.
If all else fails, try to recall a name of document and do a search of the C drive. Maybe they just got moved.
Yes,Bren definitely has the “Someone will answer for…….”look. Down home they say “um looks like they a go’n bear hunt’n with a willow switch”
I can hardly wait to get a good look at those pillars in the background.
Counting down the days, and I agree with those who like the cover. Very eye catching and sells the characters well.
Took one glance at the cover- clicked to Amazon and pre-ordered. Then I returned and truly enjoyed the cover. Zoomed in the view to see it even better. I would have ordered it even without the advance peek at the cover art but it was a powerful spur. I am so excited that this book will be in my hands in just a few weeks.
About the e-books: I tried to purchase a book-download from CC without success. I did email a query and I know she will get back to me when possible :). All of you have been extra busy lately.
Hmmm. What happened with the book download? It’s all us. We’re anxious to fix any glitches.
CJ – Can we pre-order through your Amazon store so you get a slightly bigger piece of the pie?
Yes. I’ll fix it to be double-sure.
That’s a remarkable cover; it actually over-rode my very strong mental image of the Angel episode in which he leads his doughty team out to battle the forces of evil which have turned him into a very short puppet.
Really looking forward to the book!
I really like that cover =)
Pre-ordered through Powell’s. They had another book I also wanted, so I’m going to be future-reading happy.
Would I be correct in thinking that a lord’s bodyguards do not normally walk around with weapons out? I mean, I expect them to be armed, but not to be carrying them out so ready-to-use in normal daily routines.
Actually, if it’s rifles, and they’re coming in from outside the premises, they’re ‘out’, having no place else to put them discreetly; the other lord’s bodyguards are likely to match whatever the ‘guests’ are carrying, which means two nervous lords on initial meeting can theoretically do a lot of damage. In the case of, say, Geigi visiting Bren, you wouldn’t normally see weapons except sidearms; in this case, they’re in from outside, and carrying everything they’ve got, including the luggage. The Guild is very jealous of its prerogative to go armed, and apparent threat is carefully measured and carefully managed. Armed lords (like Bren) are the Guild’s nightmare…but his bodyguard is at least quite certain he is not trigger-happy.
This cover and the one to Conspirator are both gorgeous – much better than some of the earlier covers int he series. Can’t wait for the book!
I’m really liking this cover artist. It’s psychologically hard on an artist when an artist trying to make a name for himself is given one art direction: look like Whelan. (In which way, they might ask.) This artist is being himself, so far as I can tell, and has given me two great covers. One of the neat things about this one (besides its painterly qualities) is the degree of motion: it gives an impression of movement without anybody looking unbalanced—and that may be a minor thing, but I have a secret list of covers to which I have given alternate titles, based on the continuation of a portrayed movement: swings that take out an ally, people falling off things, standing in odd places…etc. There’s a compositional technique in which artist does some wild pencil spirals to define a nice arrangement of figures in motion, but if the people are portrayed off-balance, they may end up on my list of alternate titles. This artist has a notion what the ‘next step’ is, and people do not collide or fall off in that ‘next step’ in his paintings. That’s something to appreciate!
What I especially like about the last two covers are the defining background elements. There’s the tree window on Conspirator and I’m quite enamored with the sea creature columns. Background-wise I felt that some covers before were rather generic, these are a bit more appetizing and interest generating as far as the story goes.
And Bren coming towards the reader, ready to raise living hell…
I hope that Foreigner number twelve (what was its name?) will see this artist again giving us another great cover. Btw, the artist has a few bigger detail shots of parts of the Conspirator cover up on his webpage.
Is it known where the other cover originals are? I think I once read that DAW has the Whelan ones.
And another question, there are two different mecheiti interpretations, Foreigner sports one version, Inheritor and Deliverer the other. Which one is closer to how you envisioned them?
Who is the artist, and where is said webpage??
I thought they were the same guy, but now I am not sure. Todd Lockwood did Conspirator’s cover, but I can’t tell if he did this new one as well.

I thought all the covers in the series were at the bottom of a Wikipedia article, but I can’t find that page, if it exists. Am I imagining it?
Squeeing so hard over Deceiver, it’s not even funny! Rushed to pre-order. 🙂 Now … the… wait… I like the feeling of motion in the cover, that straight-forward, aggressive stance is very interesting, and gives a sense of danger, urgency and perhaps a bit of opening a can of whoop-ass, if you will forgive the colloquialism.
It is Todd Lockwood, Sweetbo is right, above, and note, he sells prints. So if you want this cover, I’ll bet he will sell you a copy.
oh yeah, bren looks a tad uhm, irritated shall we say? and on his way to “discuss” the irritating issue 😉 i’m gonna go pre-order the book now, have destroyer waiting for the right time to dive back into the world of atevi, humans, potential others and ilisidi-ji 😉 any chance you might come out to hotlanta for dragon con? i’m seriously thinking of springing for a booth in the exhibitor section this year. if i don’t i will attend at least one day, we won’t be just getting back from visiting parents…
D
I wish I could, but we’ve done all the long travel we dare (timewise) for right now.
I hope this is wrong as in applies to another book I just ordered .
But it appears that Deceiver has a “Estimated ship date for this item: June 7, 2010”
But I also pre-ordered the CRC Handbook (91st ed.) so may apply to this item instead .
Ok , Phew ‘-) , It was the CRC handbook feeling much better now .
amazon is showing May 10th for my order today on ‘Deliverer’ . Sorry about the confusion .
@babydr. I preordered from B&N and received it monday, april 26. B&N generally ships its online preorders about a week before the release date. This one is a goodie. 😆
