Texas:

There's more to Texas than what the highways pass through.

Around Austin there are caves which I have not had the pleasure yet of visiting, but I plan to.

And never forget the Johnson Space Center in Houston, which is actually a bit to the south and west of Houston, so don't get your hotel in the heart of Houston if you primarily want to go to the Space Center. Check your area.

Also, if you're mapping your way through Texas, don't stick just to the interstates, which aren't the shortest distance between most points. A really good route out of Colorado to Dallas is to go via Raton to Clayton, to Dalhart, Dumas, Wichita Falls and on to Gainesville. That saves a bundle of time. The roads are a lot of 2 lane blacktop, but traffic is not heavy, and there are passing zones in New Mexico, while in Texas, local courtesy has a slow driver pull partly onto the shoulder to let a faster car around, a courtesy I wish would spread.
