The coast---is worth just throwing your schedule to the winds and driving slowly. We stayed at a place called Yachats, which has a hotel, the Adobe, with marvelous views of the surf crashing in on unforgiving rocks, and I'm told the view is likewise spectacular, when winter storms roll in. Bring something warm, that can be dried quickly, even in warmer months. The wind off the Pacific is fit to knock you over if a storm is coming in. I can sit and watch the sea for hours on end.
