Jane and I both! Yay us!
I’ve been back in the pit of depression—not fiercely bad, but pretty uncomfortable—thought I needed my thyroid checked again, did, and yep! Doc upped my dose again. I shall be cheerful in short order.
Jane’s suspecting the same thing. She’s getting re-tested.
So we shall be both svelte AND happy!
The lights all work.
Jane put a spooklight in the pantry closet that welcomes me with light when I arrive or leave with hands full of cans; and turns off automatically when I leave.
She put a new switch on the stairs lights.
We ordered the bathroom tile.
I got a short story done for the Poul Anderson anthology: I’m doing one for Lawyers in Hell. Jane’s working on her Seeking North story, and Lynn’s working on another.
I love spooklights. They’re so handy!
I’m on thyroid, and notice that I need to adjust down every spring when I start to exercise, and up every fall when it gets too cold/muddy/slick to walk. YMMV
Re the thyroid, I hope yours and Jane’s diet regimens are not.somehow exacerbating your thyroids. Maybe it’s seasonal as Adrianne suggests.
It’s good to know what shorts and long-form mss y’all are working on, that we can look forward to upon publication.
Heh, after battling the lights, it must be a relief for Jane to get to write on Seeking North. …Looks like that’ll be posted a bit before my birthday. Not that I’m being egocentric or any such… 😀
Congrats on the pound. I’m still working on getting into my Levis and getting the zipper up and the button fastened without having to lie on the floor.
Nope, these diets are actually healthy. And both of us, while we have opposite thyroid conditions, are just behaving as expected, no surprises. Nothing serious, but it doesn’t get better. The meds handle it quite nicely.
A nutritional supplement which has helped me considerably with hypothyroid problems is L-Tyrosine. It’s easily available from health stores.
See How does L-Tyrosine relieve hypothyroidism symptoms?
It also works very quickly and safely, without the side-effects of many medicines. Personally, it’s made a huge difference to me. I find a very noticeable effect within about 10-15 minutes of taking a capsule on an empty stomach, and it lasts about 8 hours. For me it lifts depression, and allows me to focus and work, which I wouldn’t otherwise be able to do. It also seems to reduce food cravings dramatically.
INDICATIONS:
L-Tyrosine, an amino acid, is a building block for several important mood enhancing brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) such as serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline. L-Tyrosine is a precursor of thyroid hormones and it also assists in the function of the glands responsible for making and regulating hormones, including the adrenal, thyroid and pituitary glands. L-Tyrosine is therefore useful to improve thyroid function, for stress management, to increase low energy levels, for increased alertness, and as an appetite suppressant.
Interesting! thanks!
Isn’t is interesting how “mental illness” is really physical? Just bad chemistry*. Post-surgery, I’ve had my first panic attack in almost a year, my already short attention span has decreased to almost nothing, and I’m sleeping 10-14 hours (not necessarily at night, though). (Yes, I have an appt with my psychiatrist and found an internist who will see me without insurance.) (*I am not denigrating the usefullness of “talk therapy, btw, but as my psychiatric SW says, one has to be a certain amount of sane to be able to utilize the techniques.)
Yep: getting body chemistry calmed down is helpful. I’m haunting jigzone.com, where I work jigsaw puzzles until I relax rather than track down and kill some fool I met in line at the grocery…
Good on you both! You inspired me to start South Beach and after 6 weeks I have managed to drop 5.5kg (about 12lb) – I still have some way to go. I am eating more than before…just much better choices!
A Poul Anderson story? Wonderful news, he is one of my all time favorites. I have always liked authors who use Space Merchanters in a consistant future history
Yep, edited by Gardner Dozois, and approved by Karen Anderson. My story is based on Tiger by the Tail, a Flandry story. And I just got an e-mail from Gardner accepting it for the anthology. I was not finding time to do it, but when Karen e-mailed me, I couldn’t say no to her. Karen and Poul were my partners in mischief from the many, many conventions we attended together. So, well, a tribute to Flandry, on a suggestion from Karen. How could I refuse?
I met Karen and Poul Anderson once they were very nice. Ya know, now I’m gonna have to find Tiger By The Tail, Ha! found it…off to read
