…nicer e-books in some formats. Some of the older formats (RTF, TXT and others) have some problems (gappiness and not displaying graphics) that she believes she can resolve. We aren’t yet ready to undertake revision of all our books, since Jane deserves the time to get her own books up there, but it will happen. Basically it calls for creation of 3 basic ‘foundational’ texts and going from one of those for specific file types. Very much a case of try-it and learn. Plus Jane has found out how (thank you, person who sent us a walk-through) to create active TOC’s [table of contents], which is nice for those of you migrating during the day from one reader to another. So that will eventually be another correction, that will enable you, if you were reading chapter 4 on your computer at breakfast, chapter 4-7 on your palm on the subway and during lunch break and backtrip, and back to your computer for chapter 8 that evening, to locate yourself fairly precisely.
We do grow. We are composing a little pamphlet that will tell anybody how to do this, in incredible detail, and we learn as we go.
Meanwhile I am getting over the convention crud fairly rapidly, and look to be 100% by the weekend. I’m not yet well enough to write, but I got the Deceiver galleys in on time and under budget, and that was pretty good for somebody having trouble standing upright on Tuesday.
My wonderful new computer is arriving tomorrow. This one will become my road machine. Happy, happy.
Oh happy day!! A new computer is definitely a bowl
of cherries kind of day! I await with patience,
patience,pa…….

My cats are definitely indoors. Far,far too many cars, parasites, diseases and predators out there. I
do plant flats of sweet barley grass for them and
they graze everyday,so they don’t miss it.
Glad you are recovering from convention crud, CJ ji…..hate the ones that make you feel so lousy you can’t work…but not so bad that you want to spend all your time resting.
Happy New Computer…..I bought my first a little over a year ago and don’t know how I lived without it……old dogs new tricks…..it’s why I say if I can learn to use a computer anyone can…I digress……..;)
Azureblue I like the idea of cat grass…….I’ll definitely give it a try……
should be: 😉 & 😆

I get a large pack of seed from Pets mart. I use a
plastic tray and add holes, add soil and seed. I
learned the hard way to cover the trays with the
plastic mesh used for oranges. The grass has no
problem growing up through it and the cats can’t
rip up chunks of grass&soil. Works great!!
Great idea, Azureblu—I bet you could do the same with the lighting grid we use for all sorts of things in marine tanks. Lowes Hardware, that plastic grid stuff.
We used to have grass for the cats but a fair number of pukes later we decided that anti-hairball food was better for the carpets.
I guess that each cat is different. Mine were tossing their cookies until I started the grass.
They acted like they were starved for it. The one
that I get,the sweet barley, isn’t like the grass
that has lots of little hairs on it. That will
make them up chuck.
CJ,the grids sound perfect! Thanks for the idea.
😆 we are soooo lucky. Our cats produce one hairball a year, each. I also brush the daylights out of mine every morning. Jane’s—when you can get him to stay still: but he’s a plushy kind that doesn’t shed much, except on the couch. 😉 Ysabel—I could knit another cat off her sheddings, easy.
I’ve tried grass with both my cats, but apparently spider plants taste better…
On a completely different subject… CJ, would you like, could you use (or would it be a bother) a list of formatting/typo/etc errors as I read my way through the books you have on CC? I’m about thru Heavy Time and soon to begin Rimrunners, and while HT was pretty “clean” there were a few run-together words and things like that. Stuff that I don’t Think would be format or device specific.
If it’s anything you would like I can note (as I come to them) issues with Rimrunners..
We have one list from Heavy Time, but are always up for hearing a typo list: we hope to get a perfect book, someday. Perhaps it will happen on the 100th edition. 🙂 Also, as Jane says in her day’s post, we want to know if somebody is having to make more format changes—and how. If it’s something we can provide, we’d like to try.
Oops – muy bad. The title of book #2 is obviously Hellburner, not Rimrunners. This is what I get for glancing at the Bookcase instead of Thinking about it (or checking the Reader..).
That said, I’ll keep a log of things I find in Hellburner – which I’ve just now begun. If there is a recurring theme to many of the “errors” it seems to be spacing after an italicized word – the following word will Not have a space between it and the italicized one. Seems to be fairly common, at least in Heavy Time, and it’s come up a couple of times already in Hellburner.
I don’t see how this could be format (ePub) or reader (Sony PRS-300) specific, and it doesn’t happen with every italic, but does seem to occur pretty regularly.
Oh – is there some particular convention I should use to identify the location of “things”. Will the displayed page number the reader shows be meaningful?
