We really wanted to go join the local filk group: the downtown Opening Night theme this year is the Universe, and the filk group has a gig on in the celebration, but I’m still prone to tire out: mineral levels, electrolytes, or whatever: yogurt is helping, slowly, because my stomach is still iffy—and being down there with no easy way to get out is just panic-inducing. Hate to pay for the evening passes for two people and then have to go home after thirty minutes. So we’re ringing in the new year here…bubbly and chili mac. Tomorrow morning the Rose Parade, bacon, waffles, and who knows what?
After that—we go look at Y memberships and an exercise program.
Better luck next filk meeting!
I’m about to fix black eyed peas.
Chili sounds good. Wonder if I have a can….
Chili (turkey) was lunch.
Black eyed peas have been soaking for the last 24 hours, and there is a designated ham bone for them, along with the collard greens.
There will be a real turkey prepped for tomorrow.
We may bag it early on the festivities; we ain’t what we used to.
Happy New Year from Germany. We’re already 1:35 hours into 2013.
Stay healthy, and give us many good books to buy and read!
Ektus.
best wishes for a very happy new year !
Safe, sane and happy New Year one and all.
I also would like to wish CJ, Jane and all the readers of the blog a Happy New Year. I’m a shut in this holiday season and really enjoy the blog and the community around it. While many feel the net is a cold place I find a lot of warmth here and I’m thankful for it.

Home and a bit of the bubbly — a perfect way to see 2012 out, and welcome 2013. A wonderful new year to everyone!
Enjoy your New Year’s whereEVER you wind up! Here’s to a Fabulous 2013 for Everyone!
A healthy and happy New Year to us all! May the Wheel turn in it’s courses and bring joy and peace.
Happy New year! Happy writing thoughts and good kitty thoughts, too.
Happy New Year to all! May it ring in health, peace and prosperity for all of us and our countries.
My spouse is at Boston’s first night right now (or hopefully on the road home): I decided to spend the evening working on my novel, which I didn’t get a chance to write new scenes in this entire, busy fall semester. I’m two scenes from the denoument. It’s a good way to start the new year!
Ah yes, here comes the car in the driveway.
A very quiet New Years Eve here in the House of Four Cats. No alcohol, very simple dinner of pancakes, my weekly online chat with a few friends and then to bed.
Such an exciting life here.
Happy New Year to all there in Smoked Ham, and for all of us here at WWAS.
Just an FYI: The Senior Center in my town sponsors lots of exercise programs at a very reasonable cost. Yoga, Zumba, strength training, etc. Also has an exercise room that is free for members. I belong to just one class, meeting Tuesday and Thursday mornings, $5 per session. And, the Recreation Center in the adjoining town has free Senior Exercise Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. So you might want to look into those types of options as well as the Y. One advantage is that I’m not in class with people my granddaughter’s age! With granddaughterly figures and flexibility.
And Happy New Year to everyone.
Happy New Year and good wishes to all! Zorro is presently Not Happy; yesterday she went to the vet for her second booster, which made her kind of lethargic and dopy. Then came the Night of 10000 Booms. We came home and found her behind the bed, covered in dust vorpal bunnies and twitchy. This morning she wasn’t even interested in meat pulled off the turkey neck, where she normally demands gooshyfood NOW. Poor thing. We hope she recovers from the double trauma quickly.
“Good riddance,” is what I say! No, wait! We still have a Congress that couldn’t find its a** with both hands. ๐ Who elected this bunch of tin-pot dictators anyway?! If’n ye can’t compromise, don’t know when to cut a deal, ye don’t belong in politics!
Other than that, and a very frosty morning here on the warm side, YEA!
But Paul, tell us how you really feel….
So glad we’ve got a 2 year reprieve till the next election! ๐ (Though I suppose that means we have to put up with another 2 years of dysfunction! ๐ )
And so glad to see the sun today, and Sunday. ๐ Since the weather broke in October it has been pretty continuously wet! Over 50″ of rain in 2012, one of the handful of wettest since they began keeping records. (36″ or so would be “normal”.) I think these were the first truly sunny days in nearly 3 months. Was thinking of trying to find a “sun dome”. ๐
And yes, that was a rememberance of one of our losses in 2012, Ray Bradbury. ๐
Happy New Year! Best Wishes for a new year that’s better for everyone.
Cold and rainy here today, great day to be inside and cozy.
Moderate amount of fireworks here in the neighborhood and elsewhere last night. Glad to be in then too.
About to have some black eyed peas and whatever else appeals to me.
Hoping things will improve this year.
Aw, poor Zorro. I hope she feels better soon.
Hoping yours and Jane’s New Year is filled with all the love, light and prosperity you both deserve! Hopefully your recovery from the bad wine goes as quickly as possible, too.
Lance and I always stay in for New Years. I just don’t like all the amateur drinkers out there trying to get home and not necessarily making it. I’d rather not be involved in their failure… So, perhaps it isn’t a bad thing if you didn’t feel up to it. ๐
This first day of the year is quite sunny and bright here; nice! We’ll probably go catch Monster University at the cinema, then have a nice tamale pie for dinner with mashed taters. We don’t do much cooking though so these are from Safeway down the street. They have some good pre-made refrigerated dinners, which we enjoy.
Warer aerobics, goes by many names. Does not require getting your hair wet nor ability to swim. Available at most YMCA’s.
Happy New Year to CJ, Jane and all. Since my husband’s job is selling to those amateur drinkers DragonRider mentions, our New Year’s Eve is spent at home doing professional imbibing of whatever tasty things he’s brought home. Early-ish to bed, and didn’t even wake up when the fireworks started. All is well, if cold and snowy here.
That sounds like fun, sampling whatever tasty things he might have brought home! I think it’s definitely best to do so at home though, where, short of one of those drinking amateurs driving into your house after missing the road, you’ll be safe as possible!
My doctor is always telling me to just walk. To make things more interesting (and fair?), have Jane lug her SLR along. Have a picture goal, like cats, blue things, old cars–whatever. More interesting than most exercise and free.
