there’s some ‘new’ land probably along an oceanic ridge clear to the far side of the planet, and the Southern Isle below the Marid is about as large as Mospheira, which is about half the size of Australia, as I view it. Geologically speaking, the Continent is assembled out of at least 3 big pieces, former independent landmasses having rammed together from the south and east, hence the modest mountain range separating the Marid from the rest of the continent, and the really impressive range separating the East from the rest of the continent. There is no really convenient land off the East coast to encourage much beyond coast-hugging fishermen, but there is off the Marid coast, and of course there was Mospheira and Crescent Island before the humans landed, off the west.
So, yes, I have sort of an idea of geologic history as well as political history.

what happened to the 6 other Taylor’s Children that Ramirez activated. They are mentioned in Precursor (I think) and that seems to be that. Do Jase and or Yolanda know who they are? Is it perhaps a secret known only by the Guild or Ogun and Sabin? Do these people even know their own background?

I listened to Cuckoo’s Egg this week and it was INcredible! I LOVE Audible and love listening to books as much as I like reading them.
I STARTED READING THE FOREIGNER BOOKS A FEW MONTHS BACK I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A SINGLE TRILOGY. BOY WAS I WRONG. I’M READING “DESTROYER” RIGHT NOW AND THE ONLY THING I WANT TO COMMENT ON IS THE ARTWORK ON THE COVERS. THE FIRST 6 BOOKS WERE GREAT THE COVERS ON “DESTROYER” AND “PRETENDER” ARE JUST AWFUL. STORIES ARE GREAT I HOPE YOU HAVE SOME KIND OF ENDING SET UP SINCE NOBODY LIVES FOREVER. GREAT BOOKS LOVE YOUR WRITING
We’ve had discussions about the covers in the past. For me, the cover for Destroyer is pretty much OK (it’s another Michael Whelan), but the cover for Pretender is by the far worst in the sequence. This is not because of bad execution of the artwork, but because of the terrible portrayal of the atevi, who have been made to look like Native Americans.
For me, the best covers are the ones by Todd Lockwood (after cover number one, by Michael Whelan, which really set the tone for the series). They are the covers for Conspirator, Deceiver and the latest title (but not for Betrayer, which I believe the illustrator had to rush too much).
It is all subjective, though. Michael Whelan can be superb at portraying aliens and alien environments, but his images of humans are not on the whole very good (in my view).
I think CJ said that Lockwood would be illustrating the next cover, for the book that will not be out until March 2013 (blast it!). I’m having fun rereading James White’s hospital stories in the meantime…
So, in order of how ‘right’ they got the Atevi, it’s Whelan on the first volume, then Lockwood’s Conspirator, Deceiver and Intruder covers?
Not necessarily. I’m just saying those are the covers I personally prefer – but it is a very subjective thing. Someone else may disagree with me completely.
I’m not sure whether I like Whelan’s cover for Foreigner the most, but I do think he set the style for the look of the atevi. I find that Lockwood’s covers are softer and the figures are more lifelike. I particularly like the one for Deceiver, because you can distinguish between Banichi, Jago, Tano and Algini very clearly. They are, in fact, exactly how I imagined them.

That’s OK. By the way, if you don’t know already there is a thread specifically about the Foreigner sequence on this Website – lots of discussions, including one or two about the jackets. 🙂
I’m currently reading INTRUDER. You have remained true to the Foreigner universe CJ, and I’m enjoying it as much as all the previouse books. Your style of writing is so immersive! Getting lost in the pages is a very comforting escape.
Hmm, the list of titles CJ put at the top seems to be running a little behind.
I’m a bit confused about the upcoming ones, but shouldn’t it be something like this by now?

Note — Somehow, my pre-order of the digital (Kindle) version had been dropped / forgotten / cancelled. I do not remember doing that, had no reason to, and yet I can’t recall Amazon ever doing something like that without a customer’s permission.
When I discovered the lack, I pre-ordered the Kindle edition again. So I’m in line to get both the hardbound and the ebook versions.
These days, I’m going primarily to ebooks, except for a few favorite authors or in cases where no ebook seems forthcoming. This is mostly because I don’t have space, and am likely to downsize this year. But reading is still a major priority / necessity / vice 😉 . (I don’t have a lot of vices, and I don’t think a weakness for books is a bad thing anyway.)
Me, too, re ebooks. My eyesight is failing as I get older, and I can change print size with my Nook.
Just wanted to chime in an say how much I’m enjoying the audiobook versions of this series! Daniel Thomas May has an excellent grasp of the characters and really brings the stories to life. I have so little time to sit and read these days, and to listen while I am on the road or folding laundry is making my life measurably better.
