..,and see if it holds together.
Also if you want to see the before and after bathroom, Jane’s slideshow will show you the pit as it was Iexcluding the hole in the tub wall] and what we did. Notably, we added five new outlets, added a display shelf above the medicine cabinets, repaired the rotted subfloor near the tub, leveled that, retiled that, pulled ALL the tub plumbing down to the ironwork of the house drain, redid that, pulled the old counter, stripped the old tile, including the sink backsplash, plastered, repainted, did new tile, including the koi mural, did a new bath counter, installed a new type of sink and faucet, new metalwork throughout, including the tp dispenser; new shower curtain, new wall medicine cabinets, one triple-wide each, with mirrors, new lighting wiring, new lights, new ceiling ventilation fan [attic work] and new insulation around the exposed studs: the tub water now holds its heat longer. I helped sometimes, as in hefting those cabinets up, steadying things while Jane attached same, and we hired two guys to cut and position the tile and to install backerboard and do a new countertop of plywood and backerboard with a smaller sink opening, plus positioning the tile on that, plus the display shelf. We did all the grouting and cleanup, all plumbing and electrical, all plastering and painting…and of all that work, I probably did 1/10th and Jane did all the rest.

It is really beautiful, and the amount of work is astonishing.
You get a big stamp of approval from this old construction man. Sitting and filing (we call it “fabricating”) on a single finishing piece is something that gets done only on high cost custom jobs. That’s what your end product looks like. Good job!
Thanks so much, guys! I’ll relay that to Jane. We made several tries at shaping that tile, but that 12″ tile is really hard—a file was the only way to do it.
A file and SMASHING IT ON THE CONCRETE! Bwahahahaha…you left out the fun part! As for the “fabricating”…thank the gods of boredom for Naruto, yes? 😀 😀 😀
Amazing! and such a beautiful result. I love the detail too, eg, the inside of the basin, and the dragonfly handles. (I’ve been absent for a while – depression – only now able to post again.)
Welcome back, Sooz!
So sorry! Hope you’re feeling better now. We are all too familiar with that seriously pesky problem.
Big virtual hugs!
Now…close your eyes and think of yourself surrounded by golden tile, warm water, and orange, white and black fishies…and a black kitteh sitting on the edge of the tub, contemplating the soft island in the middle of the water. NOT WITH THE CLAWS!
Thank you 🙂 I have been following the blog, and I am really glad that you and Jane are in so much better a place now than you were a few months ago.
What a multifaceted girl is our Jane. I meant to ask, is that your only bathroom? — because if it was, I don’t wonder you were stressed out. A kitchen you can kind of work around, but not a bathroom. You can plug a microwave or crock pot in anywhere, but not a toilet! All your (plural) efforts were well worth it.
Yup.
It was very crowded in there when I “visited” it at Shejicon3. As CJ said, there was very little counter space left due to the various bottles and jars and stuff. Now that there are cabinets up, and a new counter, it’s completely different.
Jane, I am sorry, but I’m having difficulty picking out the “tiny piece” you put in the tub. I take it that it’s the rectangular piece to the left? Sheesh, even with 20/20 vision, the brain only sees what it can interpret.
BTW, now we know why I have a crush on Jane……a woman of many talents! But she always liked Bret best…..:(
Goofball. *hug*
Testing out my, YES, Shuvatar!
Kitteh!!!1!!!!11!
Shu-chan! Most excellent, now we see both kittehz!
Is it possible to change an avatar? I kind of like the cartoony beastie I have but wouldn’t mind changing it.
I believe Wave Without a Shore supports Gravatars – at least I get my own one. So if you get a Gravatar it would show up here, too.
Yes, Sooz—ask Jane: she just worked with the Gravatars last night, so I’m sure she remembers how to do it if you’ve already signed in, because she just did. Being admin here, I get mine by a different process, so I haven’t figured it out…or I have, but I never can remember how that goes.
I just went to gravatars and used their upload your own picture function. Easy peasy! 🙂
As I said on C&L the new bathroom is beautiful. You inspire me to get to work on my own long unfinished projects.
On another topic, equally felicitous – Intruder has arrived in the EU and we are being graced with a few lines a day over at Shejidan. We here in the US are all a twitter anxiously awaiting March 6th.
Just wanted to say that the bathroom looks lovely! The sink bowl is beautiful as is the whole bathtub area, especially that great mural! Great job, CJ and Jane! 🙂
The bathroom looks spectacular. I am doing a kitchen remodel, so I hope my final results are half as satisfying.
March 3 – box on porch….Intruder is here….planning to stay up all night reading it.
Ordered it online Feb 29 from Barnes & Noble…deeply discounted.
Here’s my exchange with B&N customer service regarding my search for Intruder. I think I should cry 🙁 but it’s almost funny 🙂

Can you do anything to get the rip off compilation which your algorithms
bring up as the #1 item when you search C.J. Cherryh’s name? The author
didn’t write the book or authorize it and at $59 it’s the most expensive
thing under her name. Why does B&N let the rip off artists rule
their site?
B&N Customer Service Response:
Dear Customer,
Thank you for writing to us about our new website design.
We reviewed your concerns regarding your refusal to bring the item:
Algorithms by C.J. as no. 1 item. We understand that you don’t agree
with its price. Your feedback is very important to us at Barnes & Noble
and we appreciate your taking the time to send us your opinion. We
assure you that we have reviewed the issues you have raised with the
appropriate people on our design team and they are under consideration
for implementation. We truly value your patronage; your online shopping
experience is extremely important to us.
Thank you again for your comments.
Sincerely,

Oooo, good luck on the remodel!
As for the B&N thing…I can’t believe they don’t do SOMETHING to stop these guys. They chase them off, and they just come back under a different name/account. Supposedly their computers are supposed to run a “similarity” check to look for pirated books, so why don’t they catch them? Mostly, I can’t believe people BUY them. Thanks for the headsup on this one.
Welcome to the brave new world of idiotic bots answering customer mail with truly fuzzy logic….
Thanks so much for trying. Perhaps an actual human being will read your letter—unless the Berserkers have taken over at B&N.
