She’s taken to her bed and is reading and sleeping and having food and reading and sleeping. Overdue, I think. She’s been so tired. I’m trying to work, but it’s a sleepy sort of day. The light-alarm system is working well: both of us are waking up to it and not being jarred out of [...] 15 lbs down. We started on Atkins, then slipped over to REAL South Beach, and from that point on, though occasionally eating more than we want, we’re losing. Why REAL South Beach? Ever since South Beach licensed their name and logo to Kraft, people have gotten a bad impression of how the diet actually works. [...] I got Jane the traditional black cat for her birthday—a lovely kitteh in a snowglobe. And I found a couple of Bleach movies on Amazon. Bleach is one of our favorites…we have stacks and stacks of it. We are so disappointed in most American drama…very little guts on the part of the storytellers; very simplistic [...] …from trimming a plant. It seems everything about euphorbias (spurge) is poisonous. She had trimmed the euphorbia we brought in, and began having eye pain. A fast check of the internet turned up “sap in the eye: blindness,” seeds–death. Fumes off the living plant can be harmful to the eyes. Etc. We called OSG for [...] Breakfast on the patio was nippy this morning. The pond is frothing up islands of white foam—lest you think picaresque, it’s dead bacteria, dying off from the chill, as the summer bacteria give up. The koi were all resting deep this morning, not interested in food. I didn’t test the temperature: I doubt it’s 60, [...] The fridge. Here’s a new word for your vocabulary. (No, it’s PG-rated.) The word is ‘saddle valve’, sometimes called a ‘tee-valve.’ This kind of valve is the quick way to tap a larger line for a trickle flow, say, of water. This kind of valve was invented in ancient Rome, when people near public [...] We’re cooking everything we can. We have a tiny freezer and two ice-chests, so we’re putting things there. For our fridge think not of a fridge with a six-pack of beer and a half packet of weiners. Nay! A) I’m a food-hoarder when it comes to ice boxes.
