I’ll let Jane describe the joys of disconnecting the pump in 18″ of very cold water, and the delightful aroma while removing several dozen yards of filter material to dry out as we removed the guts of the waterfall for the winter.
We moved in everything that could be damaged by ice, and coiled up several hundred feet of sprinkler and regular hose—brought in the UV light rig, and installed the surface heater that will keep an area ice-free.
The fishes are all snugly asleep under their 6 foot shade-ring, and we have the water at the proper level, the electrical connections set up for the heater, and all is well.
Jane offered me dinner out, but I’m holding out for lunch tomorrow. OSG, there’s this really great Chinese buffet…
We didn’t skate today, because weather is coming and we wanted to get this done, but we’ll be back on the ice tomorrow.
Always good to read what others are doing to put ponds to bed for the winter….do fishes dream of sugarplums? We are just going to get our pond filled and do the rest next spring…something to look forward to…..this is a new and exciting adventure. 🙂
It’s off the subject, but has anyone heard anything from Joekc6nix since his surgery? Hope all went well.
I haven’t, and I’ve been thinking about him. Hope all is well.
Yeeks! And I complained about cleaning out my 1-gallon fish tank! :S All it requires to change a filter is a new blue cylinder-thing shoved onto the end of a little tube, then resettling it in the colorful rocks at the bottom, lol!
Hopefully Joe is happily lounging in bed, and has not yet bothered to have someone fetch his computer 😉
Approx 1-2 weeks ago I contacted a friend of Joe’s who assured me he is fine. I’m looking forward to him rejoining us.
About that lunch buffet tomorrow: another time, unless they ship take-out to Seattle. 😉
Oh, pooh! Have fun in Seattle!
Hi,
not sure if this is the right place to do this, but I am looking for copies of Ms Cherryh’s back catalogue. Recently came across Cyteen and Finity’s End and really enjoyed them. With restricted space at home I try not to buy harcopy books anymore and use an e-reader (not a Kindle) as much as i can. For the most part I get my books through Baen, Fictionwise and Mobipocket. When buying an e-book I would prefer that the author receives their share of the price I pay. Just wondering when the ‘Closed Ring’ will actually have the books for sale.
Welcome, and thank you! We’re very close right now. I’ll be issuing all the o/p backlist I can lay hands on legally (ie, rights-reverted) and that will be in partnership with Jane Fancher and Lynn Abbey, all 3 of us. We have books prepared to go, we have everything but the framework of the site—what you see up there now is about to undergo considerable change and streamlining—and our Paypal link. With regular Closed Circle books, everything you pay will go directly to the author (and in some cases, the franchise-holder, as in Thieves’ World.) We appreciate your attitude. ;)Mine will be available in various formats.
This past Sunday we brought in our three goldfish from the water garden and they are happily swimming around in their new, winter home of a ten gallon fish tank. It’s very nice to be able to sit on the sofa and watch them. Not as nice, perhaps, as sitting outside on the back patio with the fountain and stream splashing down upon the water garden, but the weather distinctly won’t allow for that now in Boston.
Yep, we debated bringing them in, but we don’t have a big enough tank: Kenpachi and Ari are both 6 inches long, and we have 12 of the little dears, ranging down to 3″. I was a little worried about our littlest one, but hope she will get through the winter ok.
