We did lose 2 of the little fishes—they’re very small, and at this stage of life, fragile. Two kohaku (orange spots on white) didn’t make it, what with the crazy weather that’s also made the pond murky. I did a drain down of all but 1000 gallons, we are putting in clean water, and I rejoice to report that four of our six are together, hanging out in the little ‘houses’ Jane built of rock, and around the filter intake pump—which makes me very glad I put that thing in a mesh bag. They can get too snuggly with a pump and get into trouble.
But using the auxiliary pump, the draindown only took about 3 hours, we are now (much more slowly) refilling: I’ll have to test and adjust the chemistry again; and hopefully we’ll be able to see our fishes from time to time. Ari, Maddy, Wesley, and Ichigo all are ok. Pix are impossible: you’d only say, what fish? Clarity isn’t perfect, they are opting to stay in the deepest water, next to or under a black mesh bag.
That hiding under stuff in the deepest water seems a very pro survival thing. Hope the remaining four continue to do OK.
So sorry that two of the newbies did not make it. I know at that size they can be pretty fragile.
After this up and down spring, our pond is finally beginning to clear.
I say up and down spring as though it is unique; it isn’t. Living near the coast means that the weather will always change.

I’m feeling rough; either a reaction to all the flea treatment or else it’s.a cold or allergies. Acts like any of those. Yesterday, I vacuumed the bedroom that was powdered the day before, and the cats’ flea collars are bothering me, though they are (magically) keeping them on, highly out of character. I ordered the liquid to apply to the napes of their necks, and intend to ditch the collars. Not bothering them, but bothering me.
So I’m going around the house, drippy and not a happy camper, haha, but I’m up. Somehow, Amazon thinks I have a delivery today. Really? Sunday on a holiday weekend? Nutty. Oh, well.
Lots of liquids, probably ramen soup with a couple of spring rolls for lunch. Would just as soon stay in bed and sleep. Will likely do something, though, and laundry is going. Can you say, boring sameness? :-/

Yesterday I broke down and did the unthinkable — I upgraded my ancient flip phone to a smartphone. I had apparently been due an upgrade for some time, but had never been arsed to go through the hassle of changing phones. It was time; the battery on my old phone was dying, and my new phone has a nice camera, which I can use to e-mail pictures. I still have a laundry list of things to do, but at least I can tick that one off the list.
I had to replace my landline phone this week – fatigue finally killed the switchhook, and it broke and fell inside the phone. Well, it was old (more than 10 years, for sure).
I’m doing a bit better today. This thing acts like a cold instead of allergies, or the reaction to the flea control for the apt. and cats that I thought it was,but I think it’s past the worst of it.
round 2 of pond drain—another 4000 gallons. It’s refilling. We have not yet seen any of our little ones eat anything, but I keep tossing food into their vicinity, and they’re apt to freeze like fawns if they see movement. One, Ichigo, our little red-head, shows an adventurous streak. I do happen on him straying way off near the waterfall, opposite end from the winter pit where they are staying. He’ll streak back in an instant when I approach the pond.

Ichigo (from Bleach) always seemed more like the reluctant but responsible hero, willing to fight when he felt it was needed. Naruto always seemed more prone to be adventuresome, a little wild and impetuous, fun-loving, but eager to fight if it upset his sense of what’s right. Two takes on a hero archetype. (I like both.) So since your new Ichigo koi seems more out for exploring and adventuring, Naruto, with the orange jumpsuit and jacket, but gold hair, seemed more fitting to me. But yeah, gotta go with the Bleach and Cyteen and Netwalkers themes you’ve got going. Wouldn’t want it getting *too* crowded in there. Heh. 😀
